Commercial Description:
To acknowledge this year’s anniversary, our 11th, Allagash’s brewers decided to use a champagne yeast for both the primary and secondary fermentations. This beer was brewed with both Cascade and Northern Brewer hops and copious amounts of Belgian Aromatic Malt to achieve its vibrant garnet color and unique, malty palate. At a hefty 9% ABV, the alcohol in this brew is balanced by a light sweetness, a full-bodied mouth feel and a gentle, lingering hop character. Just prior to bottling, when there is no carbonation present in the beer, a fresh dose of sugar and yeast is added. After bottling, the beer is aged in our temperature-controlled cellar, where the yeast ferments the sugar and naturally carbonates the beer. This process, known as méthode champenoise, is the same traditional process we use for all of our bottled beers. The batch of 11th Anniversary Ale was bottled in May of '06 - 950 cases, six bottles in each case and is the only batch that will be available. Its aroma is redolent of red licorice, nutmeg, wild apple, and hard candy. Its taste is malty with date and fig notes with a finish that is crisp, striking a balance between dry and fruity. We suggest serving this rustic brew at cellar temperature. Our 11th Anniversary Ale would make a perfect addition to foods such as roast duck and venison, or with desserts like pumpkin pie and apple cobbler

Thanks to BBB for this one. Pours a medium color, white head. Aroma is the Allagash belgian "norm". Its cool, but not overwhelming. it seems like just another Belgian to brew for an anniversary.

750mL bottle. Murky dark brown color, very muddy and opaque. Belgian yeast esters in the nose, some clove and light fruit esters, but also a lot of bourbon, red grape, pear and tobacco scents. Wonderful smelling beer, much better all around than the Allagash Interlude. Semi-sweet tobacco malt flavors, with notes of peaches and plums, figs... great malt presence, chewy and sweet, works really well with the yeast.

Beer pours cloudy amber color with nice creamy tan head. Aromas of dark malt, chocolate, alcohol, earth and yeast. Flavors of light malt, earth, yeast and faint coffee. Mouthfeel is creamy with nice soft carbonation. Thanks Lumpy!

Big fruity and alcoholic nose with hints of a spicy mustiness...kind of a damp basement quality. The flavors are largely dried fruits and spicy yeastiness...but there is a very nicely prominent bittering hop quality that surprises me. This lends to the notion that there is a pretty good balance between malt sweetness and the funky hop bitterness. Alcohol pretty obvious throughout, but not intrusively so. Good stuff!

Bottle courtesy of IMtheOptimator: Poured a deep amber color ale with a small foamy head with adequate retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some spices which may include coriander is very interesting. Taste is somewhat dominated by sweet Belgian style malt with light candy notes and subtle spices. Body is quite full with some medium carbonation (I think a bit more lively would have benefited this beer) and no alcohol was discernable. Another great beer from a very fine brewer.

Slightly spicy aroma but also somewhat malty and yeasty. Appears a cloudy red-brown like tea. The flavor is light and smooth and malty. It is nice that it isn’t too intensely sweet.

Copper with some tan head. Fruity with some fruit or pine. Pina Colada maybe? Fairly malty with some peppery, medicinal flavors. Very bubbly. Nice but didn’t wow me. Thanks theisti.

Bottle, at csbosox KC tasting 4/14. Pour is cloudy orange - amber. Belgian yeast aroma with some hop coming through as well. Taste is same, with a nice malt medium - heavy body.
