Commercial Description:
To acknowledge this year’s anniversary, our 11th, Allagash’s brewers decided to use a champagne yeast for both the primary and secondary fermentations. This beer was brewed with both Cascade and Northern Brewer hops and copious amounts of Belgian Aromatic Malt to achieve its vibrant garnet color and unique, malty palate. At a hefty 9% ABV, the alcohol in this brew is balanced by a light sweetness, a full-bodied mouth feel and a gentle, lingering hop character. Just prior to bottling, when there is no carbonation present in the beer, a fresh dose of sugar and yeast is added. After bottling, the beer is aged in our temperature-controlled cellar, where the yeast ferments the sugar and naturally carbonates the beer. This process, known as méthode champenoise, is the same traditional process we use for all of our bottled beers. The batch of 11th Anniversary Ale was bottled in May of '06 - 950 cases, six bottles in each case and is the only batch that will be available. Its aroma is redolent of red licorice, nutmeg, wild apple, and hard candy. Its taste is malty with date and fig notes with a finish that is crisp, striking a balance between dry and fruity. We suggest serving this rustic brew at cellar temperature. Our 11th Anniversary Ale would make a perfect addition to foods such as roast duck and venison, or with desserts like pumpkin pie and apple cobbler

Poured a great deep, hazy ruby with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is alot of lemon and yeast. Flavor is really nice - lemon, hops, yeast, oak, and spice. Good full-bodied palate, elegant and lively on the tongue. Really good, I was pleasantly surprised.

I had this beer on my 11th month aniversary with my boyfriend (see below). The color was foggy, amber/orange. The head was full, creamy and off-white. The aroma was crisp, alcohol, little hoppy, and some spice. The flavor was alcohol, hops, and bitter. It had a very refreshing flavor. The palate was harshly carbonated, but in a good way. The finish was bitter/warm.

Enjoyed on my 11 month anniversary with my girlfriend (see following rating). Poured a tan amber brew with lots of sediment. The head was thin and off white. The aroma was a little light, sweet, carmamel, spicy. The flavor is definitely belgian, alcohol, cirp, musty, some grape/wine. The palate is warm and carbonated. The finish is very dry.

Bottle and served the trusty Duval snifter: Muddled amber hue with a small lasting head and good lace. The aroma has notes of plum and apple esters, grassy and heather malt and hops, light leather, some star anise ester, and a light vapour of alcohol. The taste starts mildly fruity and sweet but a quick dose of bitters and alcohol cleanse the palate far effectively. Undertones of mild birch wood smoke, applesauce, and a dryish clean French Oak wood barrels. The mouth feel is sprite and enjoyable, works with the firmness of the body. A good brew but like many Allagash releases I wanted so much more.

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. The aroma is rather weak. There’s some flowers with some very faint caramel and a touch of alcohol. It pours a hazy amber with a small white head. The flavor starts with light caramel, yeast, and fruit. The finish has a touch of spice and herbal bitterness. This wasn’t up to par with what I’ve come to expect from Allagash.

C&C 750. Broke out the trusty Chimay glass. Hazy copper with a thin beige head. Sweet, yeasty nose, plum, raisin, caramel and cinnamon all meld pleasantly. Sweet, spicy caramel flavor, anise, allspice, plum and raisin. Light alcohol flavor becomes more prominent in the finish. Good, but far from the best Allagash has to offer.

murky, dark amber body with a medium sized, off-white head. The aroma is quite sweet and fruity, lots of banana, clove, golden raisins, peach and sweet caramels and toffee. The flavor is moderately sweet, caramel, toffee, a touch of candi sugar, clove, herbal hops, bananas and golden raisins. It turns a bit medicinal and boozy at the end (a problem that my homebrewed abbey styles are also plagued with). Medium/full body with soft carbonation and the already mentioned astringent finish.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a thin offwhite head. Good aroma of herbal hops, fruits and spices. The flavor is nice and soft with herbal hops, fruits, yeast, spices and a mild bitter finish, the mouthfeel is smooth and comfy. Another good product from Allagash.
