Commercial Description:
To acknowledge this year’s anniversary, our 11th, Allagash’s brewers decided to use a champagne yeast for both the primary and secondary fermentations. This beer was brewed with both Cascade and Northern Brewer hops and copious amounts of Belgian Aromatic Malt to achieve its vibrant garnet color and unique, malty palate. At a hefty 9% ABV, the alcohol in this brew is balanced by a light sweetness, a full-bodied mouth feel and a gentle, lingering hop character. Just prior to bottling, when there is no carbonation present in the beer, a fresh dose of sugar and yeast is added. After bottling, the beer is aged in our temperature-controlled cellar, where the yeast ferments the sugar and naturally carbonates the beer. This process, known as méthode champenoise, is the same traditional process we use for all of our bottled beers. The batch of 11th Anniversary Ale was bottled in May of '06 - 950 cases, six bottles in each case and is the only batch that will be available. Its aroma is redolent of red licorice, nutmeg, wild apple, and hard candy. Its taste is malty with date and fig notes with a finish that is crisp, striking a balance between dry and fruity. We suggest serving this rustic brew at cellar temperature. Our 11th Anniversary Ale would make a perfect addition to foods such as roast duck and venison, or with desserts like pumpkin pie and apple cobbler

Thanks TomDecapolis for this... Appears an orange toned light brown with a small, white head that fades into a gentle collar. Smell is of sweet, citrusy, cardamom, orange peel, cream, nutmeg, and yeasty bread with a touch of mild sourness. Taste of the mentioned aromas mixed into a lightly spiced, fruity brew. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, semi-sweet, with orange peel, and other citrusy hops hitting the sides of the tongue and leading to a semi-dry, yeasty finish.

Copper. cloudy. Off-white, tight-bubbled, frothy head, nice lacing. Aroma of sweet malts (caramel) and yeast. Light notes of ripe fruit and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, lightly bitter. Dry finish. Smooth mouthfeel, but not the velvet, creamy palate of the 10th anniversary.Slightly tart, bitter aftertaste. Very nice.

Hazy copper pour with a initially great Belgian head that quickly recedes. Aromatic malts are bready, with substantial honey sweetness. Classic lush Allagash mouthfeel. The body is crisp and well defined, noting sweet malts layered with fruity esthers, mainly cherry and peach. This tastes alot like their Tripel to me, but not as malty or creamy.

750 ml bottle. The beer pours to a nice red body with easy translucency and a nice khaki head and awesome lacing. If the body didn’t look so filtered, this would be an easy 5. I hate the power of suggestion, but the aroma is red vines and un-grated nutmeg. Some earthy yeasts. Sounds boring, but is delicate and well blended. The flavor is bitter and hoppy with flavors of flower petals, earthy yeasts, figs. Nice hidden alcohol. Warming, but not overly so. The palate is sweet, slick, medium bodied.

750ml bottle shared courtesy of TomDecapolis. Poured a deep amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of fruits, spices, citrus, and light yeast. Tastes of fruits, spices, and citrus. Light alcohol in the finish.

Pours a translucent golden amber with a bubbly off white smaller head. Aroma was floral, fruity, some citurs, various spices which were kind of hard to pinpoint and some grape. Flavor was fruity, alcohol, some Belgian yeast, hop bitterness that lingers and various spices.

Despite the loud pop during the uncorking, there wasn’t much of a head to this orange/brown ale. There’s a citric tartness to the aroma. It’s also got some light, dried fruit, a smattering of alcohol, and some baking spices. Not much body to it, but it’s peppery and warm on the tongue. Because of its lifelessness and alcohol content, it drinks much like a wine. The flavor is spicy and cautiously sweet with runny caramel, stale fruitbread, and a low alcohol burn. I feel like I’ve had another drink than the other raters. Could this have taken a turn for the worse already?

Murky reddish orange body with a few fingers of light tan head. Smells citrusy, yeasty, and peppery (kind of like an Unibroue). Tastes somewhat citrusy, and spicey. Not very carbonated surprsingly. Fairly full-bodied. Tasty, but not Allagash’s best... Still a solid, well-crafted brew...
