Commercial Description:
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Availability: 750 ml bottles, 5.17 gal kegs ABV: 7.5% Original Gravity: 1.072 Recommended Serving Temperature: 55°F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55°F

Received as a gift. Pours a dark black color. Aroma was not strong at all. Flavor was much better than the aroma. Very roasty with malty chocolaty goodness. Different for a stout because of the belgian yeast. Pretty tasty.

From a cask at Rattle n Hum. My first reaction was, wow, what is this stuff? Slightly vinous, smoky aroma. It tastes like a dark, roasty bock with a good amount of sweetness and a clean, hoppy close. There are touches of herbs and chocolate too. It is pretty complex and develops nicely on the palate. A very interesting and enjoyable brew.

750 ml bottle (batch 4) - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and light coffee. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of some light esters. Roasted malt lingers a tad on the palate. The alcohol is noticeable at the finish. Medium body. A nice beer.

Black. Surprised? Big brown head that laces. Aroma is malt and bread. Taste is very complex. Coffee, chocolate, some smokiness in there, sweet and bitter. Finish is very dry and smooth with an alcohol bite. Mine said batch #9. Excellent.

Extremely dark brown. Massive, rocky head. Complex nutty/yeasty aroma with slight peanut butter...? Surprisingly soft, malty flavor. Light metallic notes at finish.

pours black with a white head and good lacing. smells like a sweet belgian with hints of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. tastes like a good string belgian and a stout, so sweet at beggining with a nice finishing flavor of smoked malts and coffee accent. good aftertaste.

750 ml bottle aged close to a year, pours a deep brownish/black with a larger foamy/pillowy off white head tha left spotty lacing. Aroma of molasses, tobacco, light smoke toffee, coffee, dark belgian chocolate, peppery and light fruity belgian yeast notes. Flavor of a belgian strong with a bunch of roasty malt character. Some dark chocolate and coffee notes. Hints of dark roasted nuts, spicy, earthy and yeasty. Hints of smoke and molasses. Very well done and quite enjoyable.
