Taste-butter, smoked tea, usual barrel aged flavors, some tannins from the wood. Nicely done. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Darker brown with a nice chocolate/oak/vanilla aroma. Flavor is much smoother, oaky, and full bodied than the standard version. Not the greatest, but definitely an improvement. WeeHeavySD (3042), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

Perfect beautifal pour, black with a 2 finger tan head. Nose is sweet, with some nice vanilla and a touch of bourbon. Taste is sweet, bourbony and very bitter, a little strange on the mouth. Interesting and glad i got to try it. Thanks Steve. puzzl (2660), New York, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2009 Handbottle from Hopdog, thanks a ton. Big, luscious, lip-smacking oily bourbon aroma. Notes of cedar wood. Oily body, vanilla infused bourbon flavors with a bit of carbonic acid and a fairly astringent mid-body. Very little finish besides a mild bourbon burn. The Black was too subtle for 10 months in a bourbon barrel, and though the bourbon is not necessarily overwhelming, it covers all the subtleties of the beer and leaves a fairly lifeless beverage akin to one of those 5% "jack and coke" type things. Thanks a bunch Steve for the bottle. adrian910ss (1437), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2009 On draft at Capones. Pours a black color with a small beige head. Aroma of faint malts, oats and faint oak wood. Taste of slightly burnt malts, oats and barrel oak. Has a slight vinous aftertaste. hopdog (5630), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 15, 2009 On tap at Capones. Poured a dark black color with a smaller sized off white/tan head. Aromas of roastiness, woody, smoke, vanilla, and a trace (if any) of bourbon. Tastes of vanilla, woody/oak, dark fruits, roasty, chocolate, the same smokiness, and vanilla. If I wasn’t told this was done in a Bourbon Barrel, I would have just guessed Oak Aged. f351c4v (411), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
