Nose is smoke, oak, Belgian yeast. The smoke isn’t overpowering but lends an interesting character to the style. Flavor is a bit more smokey, ash, light Belgian sweetness. Slightly one- demensional. Finishes dry. Interesting beer-happy to try! Skeegle (499), Maryland, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Thought this one was particularly brutal. Tasted of hummus and hot dog smoke and little else. It was also scorchingly dry and had an odd taffy brown glowing color to it. Not a fan, had to pour out after three sips. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 23, 2009 What an odd one. Smoky ham aroma and flavor. Marred by a bit of phenol. A pleasing sourness comes through as it warms. Might have liked it more on a cold, rather than hot day. JoeMcPhee (5025), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Tap at Barcade. Hazy brown-amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is lightly spicy with a touch of light smokiness over a softly phenolic clove character. A touch of ashiness, but I like the integration of the yeasty spice with the light smokiness. Fairly assertive bitterness that probably could have been dialled back a bit, but it’s pretty nice nonetheless. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2009 On draft at Cap Ale. Thanks to my waiter Zack for the hookup on the last pour! Pours a clear dark amber with massive pillowtop khaki head and some spotty lacing. Nose is only faintly smokey. It really doesn’t come out until the flavor which is a spicy smoke and some oaky vanilla alcohol heat. Creamy chewy body with a lingering caramel bacon finish. Very well balanced for a smoke beer, and even though I love bacon bombs, I can sure appreciate the balance in this one. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA
