KAggie97 (2024), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA May 22, 2005 Bottle 340. Nice sweet and citrus aroma. Pours a lovely full, thick orange/yellow, like good cheddar cheese. Beautiful white head, lots of cabo action. Immediate rush of bourbon that lingers delicately on the tongue, but never overpowers. The mouthfeel is like beautiful lacing around your favortie glass. A wonderful beer, worth every penny of the $16.99 + tax I paid for it at the Whip-In in Austin. If you have a chance to grab one of these, do not hesitate!
markwise (353), Just North of Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours a hazy honey-brown with an aroma of spice, wood, honey, sugar, and I swear I got some dill weed. Flavor is slight fizziness with dill, wood, maple, complexity, and youth. Finish is average. This beer is still in diapers. I would love to re-rate it with some age. Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2008 Opaque blond. Aroma leads with bourbon, bread, dried flowers and wood. Very bourbony palate. Slight vanilla accent and lots of wood. The tripel seems to only provide a firm, alcoholic backdrop. Not sure I like the balance, but it is still drinkable and even pleasurable. Beershine (1515), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2008 Glowing golden color with white head that is pretty fizzy and dissipates relatively fast. Still, the glow on the beer is stunning. Aroma is mellow, sweet, and hot with vanilla bean, apples, and Bosq pears. Mouthfeel is soft with a medium level of carbonation. Apples, overripe pear, and an alcoholic finish predominate the flavors with genuine and subtle vanilla adding the only spiciness. Dry finish on this fine and mellow beer. nramsburg (154), New York, New York, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours to a light straw with a good sized head that dissipates rather quickly. Lots of yeasty bread on the nose upfront. Surprisingly little bourbon though.
On the palate this is one smooth beer. Good amount of carbonation and wonderful smoothness from start to finish. As the nose suggests, this is a yeasty beer, which, I believe, balances the alcohol nicely.
On the finish, the bourbon notes finally come in for me. There’s just a hint of sweet woody flavor that gives this one a great finish.
Solid all around beer, a real standout from Allagash. milljam (167), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Nov 28, 2008 Aroma is bready/yeasty with fruity tones, slight bourbon-musky smell. Smooth syrupy body but lots of carbonation. Very strange to me. Bourbon is wonderfully balanced, not overpowering. Blends well with the belgian sweetness.
