Very dry for a Dubbel. Full body, astringent finish. Not bad, but no Westmalle. RSRIZZO (1369), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 11, 2007 Aroma is a mild malt scent with faint yeast tones. Color is a solid brown with good carbonation a a thick tight head. Taste is malty. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp. Finish comes on with a bold malt flavor that has some roasted tones and then an easy bitterness. In the after taste there is just a faint hint of yeast. Its not a bad beer but it has no Belgian characteristics at all. Headbanger (1601), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2007 25.4 oz bottle courtesy of RSRIZZO-A cloudy dark amber body with a decent head that dissipated slowly into a covering of the beer. A faint aroma of malt and yeast. Taste of slight malt that builds up into more and more malt. Tastes more of an amber beer than a dubbel. I am getting no characteristics of a belgian beer. A little disappointed with this offering from Allagash. I was expecting more. TheJester (719), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 8, 2007 750 mL bottle. Translucent orange-brown with a decent light beige head. The aroma is mild, distinctly Belgian, and is dominated by caramel and fruity yeast. The taste is caramel-malty with dark fruit and candi sugar. The finish is slightly bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation. Average; there are better examples of the style. mansquito (843), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Pours a thick beige head that stays and leaves realy sweet lacing. Dark brown colour to the actual beer itself. Bittersweet candyesque aroma. Definate hoppy undertones. Tastes like dark chocolate and what not. Lovely dark and deep. Tastes almost like a porter in a lot of ways rather than like a dubbel. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Pours a deep brownish-red. The aroma is a caramel, malt, apple, and some spice. The taste is an interesting light sweetness that fades to a light nutty bitter. Each sip seems to dry out and fade away quickly in the mouth. It’s pretty neat that way. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2007 Tap at Barcade: Pours a murky brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is predominately figs, along with raisins in the background. Crisp carbonation on the palate. There’s a nice Belgian malt character overall. It also has a delicate fruitiness of dates, figs, and a mild spiciness of cinnamon towards the finish. Mild, and very Belgian feeling. bhensonb (4371), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2007 750 ml. bottle; Batch# 60. Aroma of dark fruits backed by chocolate and dark malt. Very hazy amber/ripe apricot flesh color. A beige head rapidly ringed. Thinnish in body with a bit of fizzy carbonation. The flavor is dark caramel, a bit of raisin, something like coffee. It starts a bit sweet, but goes dry rather quickly. The finish is astringent with slight bitter or nuts; finally some chocolate is discernible. The characteristics vary as the ale warms.
