Corked and caged, batch 71. Nice overspilling nose, gentle caramel and rich earthy brown malt, sweetness with dusty hops and a touch of smoke/roast. Ruby-brown, not really translucent, with a lovely creamy, spoonable tan head, laces like a mf’er but a little sudsy. Sweet start gives way to rich maltiness; good complexity, with pittier fruits coming through, a touch of dry wood and smoke in the back. Overall, about as balanced as a malt-forward beer can be. Medium body dries out toward the end, a touch of brown sugar. No alcohol until the light warming of my outer cheeks. Classy, mellow rendition, the type I wish flew from a font in my backyard and allowed daily imbibing.

Draft from a tulip. Appearance: Amber with an off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma: The only thing I can pick up is bubblegum on the nose. Flavor: Yeast, nuts, and a hint of chocolate. Palate: Medium body with a smooth texture.

Pours out a translucent, ruby-hued brown with a puffy, mostly lasting tan head. The nose is of raisin, fig, chocolate, grahm cracker and spicy yeast. The flavour is similar, though heavier on the nutty character, as well as the spicy notes from the yeast, which linger nicely in the very dry finish. It is complemented by the prickly mouthfeel and airy body. Allagash has never failed me.

Clear burnt umber with a large tan lace maker of a head. Aroma of spice, Belgian yeast, brown sugar and grains, all pretty faint though. Taste of brown sugar, mild fruit and burnt malts. Body seems a bit thin. Smooth and uninspiring, a let down since I do like the style.

Bottle, with Alaskanwarren. Thanks for sharing this one Brian! Ruddy brown, tan head. Woody toasted caramel aroma, very nice peppery esters, oyster brine. Warm brown bread flavor with pinch of cocoa powder. Perfectly dry and delicate finish. A dubbel that feels like it comes from a deep understanding and appreciation of the real Belgian roots. Very, very nice.
