Heavily carbonated. Aroma is of malt, caramel, grass, sugar, and yeast. The beer is way too malty for a dubbel. Taste is of heavy malt, caramel, spice, yeast, grass, and raisins. Alcohol presence is very noticeable. Lingering grassy taste. Far too malty, and too much earthiness in the taste. Not very good in my opinion. Bier brauen (215), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2009 Very dark deep copper brown, cloudy. Aroma sweet, slightly spiced. Sweet malty flavor, slightly nutty, candy sugar (but only a little). Dark fruit. I was surprised at how dry this one is. Finishes very dry, and flavors are all quite light. Very carbonated mouthfeel. Because of the dryness to me it almost has a salty finish, kind of bland. Good, not great. tgncc (845), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Attractive beer, reddish brown, creamy tan head. The aroma started out as wheat, cloves, orther malts, but as it warmed evinced more candy sugar, and definitely more alcohol. The flavor was typical of the style, a mix of sweet malts, molasses, ceral grains. The finish had a decent hop signature. Not bad overall. beerfest5 (200), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2009 On Draught at Plan B, dark amber with a good sized head, went great with a burger and fries, nicely malty and not too strong. subtle spices, a lot less than Allagash white but still there, a very nice beer. nathan30533 (164), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA

Great taste of malts and dry hops. Very good overall brew. Great job Allagash. cdizinno (4), Gastonia, North Carolina, USA does not count | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 24, 2009 12 oz. Not much of a flavor. Okay, but better in the larger corked bottle as shown. Gypsy19 (657), California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Pours a maple brown with little head. Flavor is of prunes, chocolate, and a little molasses way in the back. Not very sweet at all. The unsweetened chocolate flavor is a little too dominant over the others in my opinion. Didn’t tickle my fancy, nevertheless good overall.
