Eyedrinkale (3109), Beer Town, New York, USA Jul 4, 2004 Brown and red color with medium sized head. Taste was fruity with bits of wood and yeast. A bit thick bodied but still smooth. You can taste the alcohol. A bit sweet as well. Earlier Rating: 6/17/2004 Total Score: 3.1 Tap @ d.b.a. Murky brown color with smallish, thin head. The spiciness in this thing is what really stands out. I get mostly coriander and pepper. Medium bodied but a bit too sweet. Finish has a lingering metalic taste.
A_R (311), Georgia, USA Sep 5, 2008 This is a nice American version of a double, although definitely not as complex as the Belgians. The flavor is a mix of prunes and figs. Hearty and filling. Ughsmash (3004), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 4, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured clear coppery-iced tea brown with a short, creamy, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up dry-roasted cocoa and light raisins over dry fruity yeast and a little alcohol warmth deeper down. The flavor was well-balanced with darker fruits, chocolate, and aged caramel at the core paired with some notes of leather and a dark, spicy yeast.. just a few fusel notes on the back detracted a bit. Medium-bodied with emphasis on a nice yeast strain.. almost a sherry feel right at the end (with the fruit and some booze). Tasty brew! Bhops (200), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown. Aroma of malts and dark fruit. Some alcohol on the nose. Flavor is typical of a dubbel, with some added roasted malt flavor. Good mouthfeel. Decent dubbel. KyotoLefty (113), Kyoto, Japan Aug 29, 2008 330 ml bottle. Dark brown with an orange tint. Almost no head, but a bit of lace. Aroma: rich malt, chocolate and caramel, grains, dark fruit, Rich malty flavor, dry for a dubbel, good roasted action. Belgian yeast, dark fruits. Nice balance. Touch of citrus. A very good, somewhat stout-like dubbel. Well done. Quite complex. Doesn’t have that big yeasty Belgian taste, and probably not really sweet enough. Clean, slightly fruity finish. allfreej (291), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottled (12 oz). Mahogony pour, tan bubbly head. Lacy. Fruity nose--cherry, alomnd, yeast. Flavor is malt, cherry, cinnamon, yeast, spice. Dry finish. Medium, soft mouthfeel.
