Commercial Description:
Allagash Fluxus is so named because it is the first beer brewed in our new brewery. Fluxus marks the change and growth of Allagash Brewing Company, and our passage from the corner of our original building to a new, state of the art brewery. Brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt and 25% Rye malt, the beer is full-bodied with a spicy, herbal taste. A floral note arises with the addition of Yarrow, which is a flowering plant that was historically used as an alternative to hops. The 10% abv beer is hopped with Warrior and Brewers Gold which impart a subtle bitterness. Finally Fluxus, like all our beers, undergoes a second fermentation, the methode champenoise, by which we naturally carbonate our beer in the bottle.

Very hazy orange with a really nice super dense head. The head alone earns this one a 5 for Appearance. The aroma is quite herbal. The flavor is interesting. Sweet and oddly acrid. Yarrow huh? Soft full body. Looks better than it goes down.

Appearance: Cloudy orange-gold body with a full, foamy white head and a fair amount of lacing. Smell: A strong plantlike odor, like nosily sniffing around a greenhouse. Beyond that, there’s some yeast, spice, and honey candy. Taste: Light, delicate pilsner maltiness with a bit of honey sweetness. Flavors of citrus, yeast, and along with a strongly weedy, plantlike taste flow by. It all comes together to taste like Ricola cough drop. I had my fingers crossed that the herbal yarrow taste would maybe, just maybe ease up as it warmed, but it only intensified. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: Just as I didn’t find the Weyerbacher Decadence (with it’s unique addition of the gentian botanical) to be all that enjoyable, the same goes for the Allgash Fluxus. I, for one, am glad the Gold Age of Gruits is long over.

Pours beautifully. Yeasty, funky nose. Gives a superb flavor in the true style that Allagash brings. Smooth and tangy citric edge. Consistent and steady profile. Very vibrant. Excellent mouthfeel. This drinks beautifully and is easily one of the best Allagash offerings out there.

Bottle 750ml (corked)
Appearance: Bright gold , hazed ale, rocky medium top 3+
Nose : Hint of honey , meadow like , hint of black pepper , blend similar to saison ales.
Flavor/Palate : once again strong reminiscent of “meadow” , herbal citric and spices . Stronger bolder finish dominium of alcohol. Buzzy , light tartness. Different made interesting. 13+/20

Bottle shared by wickedpete at the pre-sex gathering. Thanks Pete! Pours a cloudy orange golden with the usual nice allagash head. Aroma of lemon zest, clove, what i can guess in yarrow, maybe some lavender. Flavor has some more spices and a little bit of rye, along with a smidge of hops. I found this sort of interesting, but for the most part watery and boring. Alcohol well hidden.

750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours a very cloudy, lovely gold with hints of orange. The head pours immense and soft and is comprised of very fine, small bubbles. The head slowly fades into a thin disc of white floating on top of the cloudy, deep gold. The aroma is spicy and doughy - a lovely bouquet of grain and esters. The rye has a definite character in the nose, but there are also other spicy notes: coriander and lavender (I suppose that last bit could be from the yarrow flowers?). There is also a decent bit of alcohol in the aroma. The flavor starts very flowery and sweet. The malts and rye have a very nice, subtle, bready taste that goes well with the flowery spices and peppery esters. There is a tinge of ethanol in the flavor, too (though not hot or solvent-like). The middle of the tongue picks up a pretty decent bitterness that is earthy and fruity. The finish is dry and leaves a spicy, peppery after-taste. The mouthfeel is soothing and creamy - medium in body and full of lively carbonation that tickles the tongue in spots but acquiesces into a dreamy silkiness in others. Overall, I was blown away. The rye and yarrow really deliver interesting and beautiful flavors. Wow.
