Commercial Description:
Allagash Fluxus is so named because it is the first beer brewed in our new brewery. Fluxus marks the change and growth of Allagash Brewing Company, and our passage from the corner of our original building to a new, state of the art brewery. Brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt and 25% Rye malt, the beer is full-bodied with a spicy, herbal taste. A floral note arises with the addition of Yarrow, which is a flowering plant that was historically used as an alternative to hops. The 10% abv beer is hopped with Warrior and Brewers Gold which impart a subtle bitterness. Finally Fluxus, like all our beers, undergoes a second fermentation, the methode champenoise, by which we naturally carbonate our beer in the bottle.

The beer came in a very handsome package, the corked and caged bottling method added an aura of authenticity, and the label depicting a Yarrow plant looked quite elegant to me. The beer itself came out a bit cloudy and orange, but the head was steady, well proportioned and produced curtains of lace. The smell was herbal, floral, and green, which I am assuming is a result of the Yarrow. There were hints of black pepper and citrus in the nose as well. This is not marketed as a Christmas beer, but would serve well as one due to this aroma. The flavor followed the smell in a logical manner with sweet, woody, and earthy overtones. Some hops were also detectable as a bitter aftertaste. The alcohol was well hidden as no burn was detected. Medium in mouthfeel with a creamy texture resulting from fine natural carbonation. A delicate and organic pleasure.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a puffy off-white head that reatains for some time. The nose is of corriander, orange rind, honey and tropical fruits. The flavour is spicy and hoppy, with some malt sweetness and a floral, perfume-like quality (yarrow?), with a peppery bite. Nice medium body with tingly canbonation and way too much of a booze presence.

this beer pours a cloudy orangy amber color with a thick head that fades in a quick mannor. There is a strona aroma of lemon grass and coriender with some intence hops. As you drink it there is a nice initial bite with some strong lemon and orange peel followed by hops. there is also a creamy flavor which is very minor but still there. The palate duration is moderate and has some nice hops flavoes as well as some honey and some orange and hints of lemon which coat the mouth but not for long.

Courtesy boboski. Slightly hazy yellow-orange color with a thin creamy off-white head. Mild sweet doughy aroma with light Belgian yeast characters. Typical Belgian characters - lightly sweet and yeasty with a slight sour twang at the finish. Not a lot of spicy character to this one. Did not taste as strong as 10%, however. A pretty mild, uneventful brew.

Cloudy, hazy orange pour. Small white head, wispy foam is well-retained, looks silky. Yeast, citrus and medium-strength spiciness share equal portions of the aroma. Yarrow is (assumed)detected, floral notes abound, white and perfumed. Alcohol is mild. The nose is pleasant but indistinctive. In the flavor, very heavy spice is peppery but otherwise undefined. Lemongrass grows corresponding to impending warmth. Yeast is lively and very lightly tart, compounded by high citric acidity. Sweetness is medium-high, astringency and bitterness are low. Finishes sweet, slowly drying, lightly peppery and strangely salty. The medium weight of the body translates to a viscous feel, good carbonation resembling an oiliness that is mostly an illusion. Though this is borderline boring, Allagash yeast keeps it drinkable and easygoing.

Poured the color of a ripe apricot, almost glowing. Aroma is yeasty, peppery, touch of mint. Flavor is slightly sweet, with an interesting sour dough component. There is a bit of an alcohol burn on the finish.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of herbs, spices, yeast, rye, pepper, corn starch, baking soda, yarrow, and honey. Poured orange in color with a small, off-white head that diminished quickly. Very hazy. A few chunky particles floating around. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of alcohol, yarrow, pepper, yeast, spice, corn starch, rye, and honey. Full body. Viscous, creamy texture. Average carbonation. Chalky, sweet, pepper, alcohol burn finish. Overall, too much alcohol burn and too little flavor.
