Commercial Description:
Another year, another batch of Fluxus has been brewed to mark the change and growth of Allagash Brewing. With a new and different recipe, our 2008 batch is a double white beer brewed with spices and fresh grated ginger. A double white beer calls for twice the amount of malted and raw wheat, which casts an elegant cloudiness over this mango-colored beer. The aroma boasts of herbal and minty notes, as well as hints of clove and candied ginger. Fluxus offers a perfectly balanced flavor with a warm, clean finish and a lingering spiciness.

Oddly enough, at first whiff this hazy white beer smells almost chronically hoppy with a nice dose of coriander. The aroma is a real adventure as this beer breathes and warms up. Next it moves onto smelling like the perfect ginger bread house, and then medicinal like a honey ginger cough drop. All along the taste follows suit, although in a slightly muted way. This was a very interesting beer, mostly because of the aroma. The heavy-handed spicing became quite un-bearable as it warmed, which was unfortunate.

Bottle shared by the illustrious Avengedpoet. Pours a hazy straw yellow with a nice white head. Aroma is coriander, spices, wheat, ginger. Flavor is wheat, ginger, coriander, spices. Refreshing and flavorful and finishes with a lot of carbonation. Nice brew, thanks for sharing Dan.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a hazy yellow with white fizzy head. Aroma of some farm house, bubble gum, some citrus. Flavor of some cinnamon, malt, fruity, some funk, semi-sweet. Mouthfeel is medium body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, nice stuff...

Bottle. Taste-nutmeg, cinnamon, eucalyptus, cherry, green herbs, ginger, basil, bay leaf, Ben-Gay, grass. Tastes like somebody got silly in the spice cabinet on brew day.

Pours bright gold into a snifter. Bright white head recedes to skim surface and hug rim. Orange, ginger and funky alcohol aromas. Marshmallow upfront turning spicy cloves in the middle and orange citrus hop in the finish. Went great with traditional Swiss fondue.

What’s a double white? I never heard of a double white. Sort of like an Imperial Lite? Anyway, works better than it sounds. Good wheaty and gingery nose, great wheaty lacing. Fruity, peppery, clovey, and, of course, gingery taste. Served with dessert, which seemed like a very good idea at the time.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy bright yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of ginger and wheat with a slightly peppery yeast and some nice fruity ester. Taste is very refreshing with loads of ginger and wheat with some very nice fruity ester. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation with no signs of alcohol. Very well done with great refreshing taste but some real complexity.
