Commercial Description:
Another year, another batch of Fluxus has been brewed to mark the change and growth of Allagash Brewing. With a new and different recipe, our 2008 batch is a double white beer brewed with spices and fresh grated ginger. A double white beer calls for twice the amount of malted and raw wheat, which casts an elegant cloudiness over this mango-colored beer. The aroma boasts of herbal and minty notes, as well as hints of clove and candied ginger. Fluxus offers a perfectly balanced flavor with a warm, clean finish and a lingering spiciness.

750ml bottle purchased at The Lighthouse in Manchester, Maine. Pours a hazy yellow-orange body with a little less than an inch of off-white head. Orange, lemon, grapefruit, pith, coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice... Wow. Spice is the first thing that jumps out, with cinnamon, nutmeg, and coriander. Citrus plays a strong supporting role, with orange and lemon chief among the flavors. Effervescent, light in body, with a fair bit of carbonation. This is one hell of a witbier. Complex but balanced, and super-drinkable for the ABV and complexity.

Pours gold with a nice pillowy white head. Smells of sweet candi sugar, spice, some peppery splashes, pronounced floral hints. Tastes dry with a gingery bite. Great beer!

Bottle. Excellent beer! Frothy head with a cloudy / hazy body. Hints of molasses, citrus, orange, banana, maply syrup, and ginger. Nearly perfect balance of flavor - highly recommended.

Wow! Cloves and cinnamon. Hmmm all sorts of spice flavors with a mild yeast funk. Its very different from anything I’ve had recently, would personally label it a herb/spice ale. Allspice? maybe a little cardamom. Ginger is hard to identify but its a dominate flavor. Points off on appearance as it looked like a headless whitbier. Came in a tiny 20cl glass which is too bad as I could have drank this all night.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy bright yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of ginger and wheat with a slightly peppery yeast and some nice fruity ester. Taste is very refreshing with loads of ginger and wheat with some very nice fruity ester. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation with no signs of alcohol. Very well done with great refreshing taste but some real complexity.

750mL bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours hazy golden, capped with a large ivory head. Sharp, spicy aroma, with lots of ginger, coriander, white pepper, herbs wheat and yeast. Flavor is well balanced and nuanced, with ginger and apricot melding very nicely, backed up with coriander, yeast and tropical fruit. Finishes with spice, wheat and tropical fruit. Nice effort from Allagash.

Poured cloudy yellow with a rocky white head that exploded out of the glass. Good lacing. Spicy sweet aroma packed with ginger, cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, etc. Lemon zest and sweet yeast esters as well. Carbonated, but still heavy in the mouthfeel. The taste is outstanding. Pleasant yeast/banana flavors with orange and lemon zest blended with the lighter malt. Different spice combinations seemed to hit you, similar but never the same. A sweet honey and wheat finish that lingers. And have to agree with JohnGalt1, chamomile is present as well, or at least the spice combination resembles it. Loved it.

Vibrant cloudy yellow. Big herbal aroma (yarrow? gentian?) Gingery taste with light pale malt underpinning. Smooth, with lots of ginger and dried herbs. Well-balanced. Really nice beer.
