| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 13, 2006 Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a huge beige foamy head with excellent retention. Aroma of sweet malt, cookie dough with some alcohol hint is pretty interesting but I could have done without the alcohol hint. Taste is a bit sweeter then expected with lots of cookie dough and some dry raisins. I would have loved for this beer to have more attenuated sugars and a fruitier aroma à la Rocherfort 10 (I can’t really have an ABT without comparing it to the best). Body is above average but could have been more full and alcohol could be more hidden. Very interesting beer from Allagash but cannot honestly say that it compared to the world bests. Nose is delicious sweet breads and fruit. Flavor is at first sweet, with rich nut and raison notes. A little hot on the back end but forgivable. Very dry with a nice finish. Damn good after a heavy meal. zach8270 (2103), Henrietta, New York, USA

Heavy and malty aroma with hints of plums, raisins and alcohol. Very sweet and malty flavor at the front with loads of plums and other dark fruits with yeast and alcohol, then going to a smooth and malty middle and a very warming and alcoholy finish. Very thick and chewy. ElPresidente1984 (173), Maine, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2006 Pours a reddish brown, with a big head that quickly dissapates. aroma of fermented grapes, peach and a hint of alcohol. grape, plum, apricot and other dark fruity type flavors, some roasted malts and a hint of alcohol. very nice mouth feel, goes down very smooth and makes you warm quickly. This beer get better the more you drink it. A very good beer, but it would be nice if it was a few bucks less per bottle. tsgrayson (15), Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jan 27, 2006 Allagash Four pours to a beautiful, deep amber to ruby color with a tall, thick, creamy white head and a lively amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is complex and inviting, with a multitude of aromas that invite you in. Waves of sweet malt, ripe fruit, earthy yeast notes, and peppery alcohol flood the nose. The palate is lush and full on the tongue with complex flavors that dance on the tongue. Sweet and caramel malt flavors play against an under tone of soft ripe fruit flavors, and spicy yeast flavors. There is so much going on in this beer, you really have to savor this one to let the taste buds soak it all in. Allagash Four finishes with more complex malt, fruit and yeast notes, then ends with some herbal hop bitterness, and peppery alcohol that warms as it goes down.
Wow. The most impressive beer from Allagash I have ever tasted, and that is saying a lot because all Allagash beers are world class. This beer is phenomenal as is, but like any good Trappist style ale, this beer will only get better with age. Some of those "raw", potent flavors, will mellow with age, and become deeper and more complex. Retailing for $7 a bottle, this beer is a steal, and I suggest you purchase a few bottles to drink young, and a few for your beer cellar. This beer is a fantastic after dinner beer, and would work well with hearty fare, as well as strong and sharp cheeses. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA

Honey, apples, and sweet malt in the aroma. Fig, raisin, appleskin, and honey. Cloying sweetness with a bit of estery spiciness in the finish. Mouthfeel is heavy, thick. I found it to be too sweet.
