ross (1511), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Oct 13, 2006 For some reason, we have gotten all of the special releases, tripel, grand cru, dubbel, white, summer, and never gotten this before. I have a bottle from 2003, but I thought i would see what it tastes like fresh, since I have never even had this before. The last of the Allagash beers I have tried, except for bruin and BA 4, i was eagerly anticipating this one. The cork popped off without too much pulling, but it did not blow off as I thought it might have. Reddish brown color pour. Smell is sweet, some hops, malts, sugars, and rich. Taste is smooth and fruity, sweet, with a light CO2 presence. Not hoppy, but just a nice beer. Has the taste of all allagash beers yeast, quite good. Proving this is probably my favorite brewery in all of the usa, without question. perhaps the world? I can drink anything these guys put out, any time. Great stuff.
markwise (257), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 750 from Knightly Spirits poured an amber-red color with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is very sweet with red apple, candy sugar, toffee, and caramel. The flavor is somewhat yeasty with red apple flavor and a lingering sweet and sourness. It’s good, but it lacks some of the syrupy sweetness I expect from a quad. canary dog (376), Rutland, Vermont, USA Aug 17, 2008 Probably the smoothest beer I’ve tried for 10% or greater, along with Smuttynose Imperial Stout. Smooth, like a good scotch, and well rounded. Chipper (45), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours a dark amber with a big off white head. Aroma is sweet with raisins, fig, a little fruit and spice. very smooth and the alcohol become present after it warms in the glass. Excellent stuff. punkrkr27 (342), Clawson, Michigan, USA Aug 4, 2008 Ruby-brown pour with a tall off-white head that fades to a thin ring. Lots of caramel and dark fruit aroma with a healthy dose of citrus and alcohol. Lots of fig and plum notes interlaced with a quite a bit of citrus hops for a quad. A few hints of spice pop out here and there. The alcohol is definitely evident. Oily medium-full body with lots of carbonation and a definite alcohol warming. BelgianBeerGal (883), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 27, 2008 75cl corked bottle. Pours a murky bronze colour with no real head. Big aroma of brandied fruit, yeast, banana, spice and alcohol. Nice flavour of more dark fruit, caramel malt and it finishes with alcohol warmth. Not a heavy hitting quad which makes it easy drinking and something you could enjoy more than every now and again.
