Commercial Description:
Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

dirty yellow pour with a thin white head...fruit and spice aroma....fizzy feel with a fruity plum start.....more fruits in the finish...I get pears, apples, sweet citrus and apricots...light and refreshing...malts and hops balance nicely...other spiced beers have not been my favorite but this is a nice break from stouts and IPAs

The 750 ml bottle from batch 16 poured a cloudy ruby orange with a white billowy head. Aromas of Bananas and Belgium yeast along with a complement of spices filled my nose. This ale had a nice clean mouth feel with a dry finish. The flavors of this one was surely a surprise for a grand cru it was a lot more bitter than I expected for the style. The hops and citrus flavors were very pronounced with a sweetness lightly coming thru towards the finish. This is really interesting brew but I have had much better grand cru’s especially in this price range .I’ll finish this one but won’t be looking for more.

750 ml. Batch 12. Sweet and spicy, a tasty and highly drinkable Belgian strong ale. Too bad the texture is so watery, quite unlike the velvety mouthfeel associated with Allagash beers. Perhaps this is a result of the age on the beer. Beautiful hazy amber body below a frothy, off-white head. The aroma is malty with notes of cookie and caramel, spicy with notes of coriander, yeasty with slight notes of cobweb. There is also a hint of lemon and honey in addition to a floral scent. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Thin to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Dry finish that lasted. Despite the disappointing palate, this is still a nicely crafted beer.

Pours a bright ruby-orange with a thick, billowing head. The head does drop pretty rapidly leaving a thin ring and plenty of lacing. The pleasant aroma of bananas and yeast gave a hint of the taste to come. The flavor is banana, clove and other spices. There’s a slight citrus tang along with a slightly sweet malt. The beer is quite carbonated and a good palate cleanser. The fruit and spice flavor was gentle, but was more than adequate to stand up to the strong flavors of the oyster casserole and the fresh minced horseradish with beef we served it with.

Aroma of sweet spices and fruits. Appears cloudy with a slightly off white fizzy head. Flavor typical of a belgian beer. Lots of spice present. Ok for a winter beer
