Commercial Description:
Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

Bottle - Batch #2: This one won’t win points for appearance, a murky brown with a beige halo (after a short, short, short lived head), but it pleases nonetheless. The aroma is dark candy, SWEET malt, dark brown sugar, toffee, pepper, sweet spice, and alcohol. Vinuous and hot in the mouth, the flavor has a hint of chocolate, a juicy light fruitiness, toffee, white peppers, licorice, alcohol, and warm spices. It has a surprizingly quick, dry finish. Very nice.

On tap at the Map room. Peach, apple, caramel malt and some spices in the aroma. Golden copper with a thin white head. Sweet, slight hint of pepper and something else I couln’t figure out. Quick finish with some more of that frutiness that was in the aroma. Light body, dry finish.

750ml Batch 10 Bottle: Cork popping leaves an interesting pattern on my ceiling; Spicy coriander and flowery hop aroma and a bit medicinal; honey and light fruit (apple, pear) notes; cloudy body and not alot of lacing in a clean glass; sweet, woody and yeasty, slightly dry finish and an oily, smooth palate, peppery spiciness that’s not too much; very good, but lacks some complexity one would expect in a Grand Cru; well balanced and not too spiced for me. It has plenty of flavor and charactor without the alcoholic strength, which is just fine.

Batch 9: Poured a murky amber with sizeable white foamy head. Aroma is lots of spicy yeast mixed with some fruit sweetness and anise. Taste is a lot of yeast, mixed with some pepper notes, nutmeg, and some other spices. Vanilla is also present in the fisnih. Nice malt backbone. Nice complexity. A good beer for a cold night.

Poured hazy orange with a sizable white head. Aroma was fruity with orange and citrus. I picked up some vanilla and toffee in the taste which I liked. Very nice palate with orange and vanilla. I’m glad I still have the rest of the bottle to finish.

22 oz. Batch 9, 2005. Nice hazy amber color, with a dense head. Somewhat sweet malty flavor. Seems to get more fruit and spice undertones as the bottle wears on. Could finish a tad cleaner. Really enjoy the complexity. Overall an excellent brew.

Bomber, Batch 9: Very nutty, woodsy, too much alcohol in the nose. Flavor is fruit spice with a powerful alcohol bite at first, but it does mellow to showcase some very nice yeast spice. Thick and velvety mouthfeel.
