A nice clear ruby pour with a head that was good size and off white. At first whiff reminded me of grape juice. As the beer warmed, more of the standard Belgian aromas started to become present. This was a pretty damn good Belgian strong ale. Thanks Jim! blutt59 (2172), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Sept. 2007 - Beer poured an orange color with some head and lacing. Not much aroma. The dryness of the flavor was the first thing to hit me, second was all the peppery spices. Underneath were some floral and malty notes, maybe even a touch of evergreen like hoppiness (which reading the description I think comes from the Simcoe hops). Very yeasty as well. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 5, 2008 Pours dark copper, almost amber and hazy. A generous head of off white froth rose quickly to at least an inch and a half.
The thick foam settled down within a few minutes, with no lacework.
Aromatics are laced with caramel drizzeled hard candies with peachy, earthy undertones. A bit resinous and sugary, with a balancing citrus nod. Belgianesque in a big way with plenty of phenols..Apples, cloves, and some bubblegum.
The nose finishes out with candied tangerine segments and whiff of cracked garlic.
The mouthfeel is tacky and sticky, with enough carbonation to keep it from getting cloying.
The pallet is sweetish and laden with malt, brown sugar, and a spicy bitterness. Hopping is not very prevalent other than whats evident in the bitterness.
Warming with a smooth bitterness, and punctuated with chipped toffee and citrus fruits.
Finishes sticky, clovey and warming.
Certainly not within the realm of IPA, but tasty nonetheless.

Fruity and juicy with a light vineous aroma. Cherries and berries with a bright tropical character as well. Rich Allagash yeast character really comes though. Very Belgian and not very hoppy at all. Sweet and fruity with a light peppery character on the back. Nice brew and not al all what I was expecting. puzzl (2649), New York, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Bottle is probably around a year old. Pours deep gold with a very nice, firm white head. Aroma is surprisingly fruity, passionfruit and pineapple, with only the slightest hint of hop bitterness left over. Flavor is big fruit under a chewy malt shell, licorice and toffee. Quite tasty stuff, very different, and not what I expected. WeeHeavySD (3041), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 10, 2008 750ml via trade a while back. Shared with Cyn, dinner of Gazapacho and grilled jerk tofu. Read the reviews and thankfully mine was not a gusher. Pours orange and bubbly with a nice 2 finger tan head. Nose has some sweet fruity yeast in it. Taste is sweet and light with some clear cut hoppiness. This is certainly another interesting interpretation of the style by Allagash, this is a hoppy belgian but not quite a belgian IPA. Pretty tasty better than the last few raters thought at least. Complex and interesting. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Pours a clear fairly dark brown with a good sized crème head. Nose is very sugary sweet like candy or even cotton candy and a good amount of wood mixed in there as well. Flavor is mild. Slight hops, pretty big sweetness going on. Besides that? Maybe a little wood. Small amount of spices. Feel has a lot of carbonation to it, but I have to say I think the liquid is a bit too thin. Overall it is drinkable, but for the price? Hell no. This is one of the first beers I have wanted to take back and get a refund. $16.99? Are you joking? $16.99 for what?? Don’t bother.
