Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Appears a hazy, russett toned crimson with a small white head that slowly fades out. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of light oak, vanilla, tart apples, melons, mild pineapple, earthiness, and citrus. Taste mimics the aromas with light cherries found among the flavors. Mouthfeel is sweet up front with honey and booze hanging on during the dry finish.

Bottled. Dark yellow colour, low, very low head. Pale malty aroma with brettanomyces, that gives acidity. Brett is prominent in flavour as well, with pale malty flavour and a soft, delicate mouthfeel. Lots of candi. Hints of berries.

January 2007 corked and caged bottle. Poured an off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, hazy, orange-golden hue, and visible carbonation. Nose was oak, fruity, spicy and clove. Flavor was fruity, spicy, sweet and vinuous. Mouthfeel had a slight burning sensation. Medium body. A sipping beer for sure and one that I’ll partake in again if the opportunity should arise.

Bottle, thanks Marsiblursi. Hazy amber, medium fluffy off-white head. Cidery fruity aroma with red apples, and some spicy and woody notes., and a touch of alcohol Medium bodied, a bit spritzy carbonation. Nice balance between malt sweetness, fruity acidity, and bitterness.

750ml bottle from kmweaver. 2006. Aroma: Light bready maltiness, peppery spice, grapey/vinous, subtle woodiness, and some nice brett notes. Appearance: Amber/orange in color and slightly hazed. Off-white head was full and foamy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Slightly sweet bready maltiness with a light caramel note. Peppery, apples and grapes, Vinous, light toasted oak. Some musty brett notes and a light sourness that helps balance the sweetness. Some earthy hop notes into the finish. Medium-light bitterness and a dry finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Very nice. Everything flowed together well in this one. Neither the brett or oak overpowered the other flavors. Great beer.
