Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Shared bottle of 2007 vintage at Coastal Wine Connection’s beer club. Deep golden, slightly yeasty wtih just a bare head. Interesting complex aroma ... since I was told this was aged in merlot barrels, I get the wine in the flavor, although I may have called it a woodsy thing otherwise. Group consensus was this came across with an almost Flemish sour character, with an almost salad-dressing sweet tart aspect, dry, acidic, complex and yummy. (#2964, 6/7/2007)

Københavnske Øldage 07. Copper-red with a huge, creamy head. The aroma has clear notes of yeast, light sweetness and citrus. The flavour also has clear notes of yeast, light sweetness, a hint of wood, fruit and citrus. the finish is dry with strong notes of grapefruit. 2124

Shared bottles thanks to CMUBEERMAN. Vintage 2007 pours hazy orange gold, off-white head. Aroma is merlot, blue cheese, slight acetone. Flavor is creamy blue cheese, merlot, slightly sour tangy fruit. Total score would be a 3.4. Vintage 2005: same appearance as 2007. Aroma is slightly tangier. Flavor is merlot, blue cheese, woodsy, yet not as creamy and no acetone trace. Total score: 3.5.

Bottle, 2007, 9.5% at KØ07. Acidic and vinous aroma. Hazy dark orange colour. Small white head. The flavour is not as acidic as suggested by the aroma, but nice with some earth. Peppery aftertaste. Actually well-balanced in my opinion.

2007 - Orange with off white head. Sweet fruity aroma. Slightly sour taste with sweet notes. Interesting beer. Resembles a wine much more than I expected.

Bottle @ Beer Chef Dinner in San Francisco (5-25-07). We enjoyed this one during the first course. A hazy amber orange color with an off-white head. A subtle balance with the wine barrels that adds a nice vinous tartness but not over done. Cider, pears, and pepper spices. Quite nice.

750ml. Bottle $13.99 Sam’s Downers Grove January 2007 Bottling Interlude poured a hazy copper that glowed orange when held to the light. A 1 finger white head formed on the pour that faded to a thin cap with chunky edges. Minimal slow rising carbonation bubbles. Leaves chunky drink lines after each sip. Scent begins with goldenrod and that barnyard funkiness. Mild tart cherries and a touch of lemony citrus. Maybe it’s my imagination but when I take deep whiffs I pick up mild oak. Very complex aromas that I’ve only scratched the surface on. The flavor is more complex than the aroma. Things begin with a slight lemon rind bitterness. Mid palate I get hit with a wave of that funkiness along with hay. Mild citric flavors come through toward the end finishing up with orange rind and a solid hop snap on the swallow. Again, I’ve only scratched the surface on the complexity of flavors. Lighter body with a slight stickinesson the tongue. Mild alcohol on the swallow as this beer warms. The flavor makes this an easy drinker but the complex flavors will wear out the tastebuds. A truly complex beer with a great idea behind it. I’m looking forward to trying Allagash’s other special releases. A really great concept behind this beer that I look forward to drinking again. 4/9/07

Orange gold, hazy, tan/white head, really good lacing. Aroma is citrus, sweet malty, little bit herbal weirdness, yeasty. Nicely carbonated and smooth. Sweet taste with sour edges and finish was very dry. Shared with the ATL crew in 4/06 - thanks!
