kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jul 16, 2006 Updated: Aug 17, 2006 Orange-gold, nice lacing and decent retention. Malty core, slight vanilla notes, with bourbon appearing only along the edges. Far more balanced than the Curieux offerering, with slight bourbon and prominent tartness on the finish.
Shag (1767), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Aug 16, 2008 This poured an amber apperance with a moderate white head. The aroma contains some oak, dark fruit like raisins, and spices. The flavor is rather sweet and malty with some caramel, raisins, molasses, and a tad bit of the alcohol showing. Overall a nice beer. ScottB (35), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours deep copper with a thin off-white head. Big malt notes compliment dark afruit. Nice long finish. The alcohol is slightly forward, but this is still an excellent beer. DSG (835), Yuvalim, Israel Aug 9, 2008 (6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, oak and some dark fruits. Sweet malty flavor with caramel and some fruitiness. Medium-bodied. Quite good. Imaena (218), Portland, Maine, USA Aug 5, 2008 Draught @ GLB with Larry and M 8/5/08. Malts, wood, warm alcohol, rasins, and dark fruit. Belgian yeast flavour aspects are evident. An interesting and complex beer. Intense. thenick (538), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Bomber. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a quickly-dissipating off-white head. Aroma is heavy malt with wood/oak notes and dark fruit detectable as well. Aroma is heavy malt up front, with yeast and earthy notes on the front, dissolving into a woody finish and a slight, slight alcohol burn on the end. It didn’t have the strong grain characteristics I’ve come to expect in Scotch ales, but it was still a very nice experience.
