Commercial Description:
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

This fantastic beer was sampled with Beerdrenched. Pours very dark brown with a garnet hue when held to the light along with a light tan head that has good retension. The aroma has white grapes, roasted malt, Belgium earthiness, and a good amount of oak. Medium / full body with lots of carbonation, but it is underscored and not intrusive with any of the flavors. Taste starts with oak and roasted malt, some sweetness, Belgium earithy traits - very complex flavors going on here. The finish has char, vanilla and more oak added in. This beer is truly more complex than I can express in words. One to definitely seek out. Incredible unique brew that is actually worth the price tag. This would be an interesting one to age as well. I want more.....

bottle-huge huge thanks to vyvvy for letting me sample this fantastic brew! Pours crimson red/ruby hue with a small fizzy off-white head that last the entire time of the beer. Looks very belgian like if you ask me-fizzy carbonation on the head. aroma is awesome-oak, vanilla, belgian spices, sweet belgian malt, and a twangy/earthy yeast note. aroma is somewhat woody as well. Carbonation is high, but this is not detracting from this beer due to the nature of this beast. awesome complexity and what a fantastic brew!

Bottle from Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, NC. A new (for me) allagash is always exciting. Nose is oaky, dark fruit, light smoke, and a rich malt. Flavor is similar. A little bit of spices added to a rich malt backbone, a bit of alcohol warmth. Incredibly smooth and and balanced body. Palate is almost perfect. Will go out and buy several more of these. Even at $14, it is definitely worth it. The best belgian strong I have ever had, though I cant wait to try and rate the Interlude again. Rob Tod, you are amazing. Rerate: Had another bottle of this recently. Still very good, but I think I was a little drunk when I rated this initially (4.6) and I can’t really compare this beer to the other beers I have in my top 10. I love Allagash still, and maybe some years down the road, this beer will make it there again.

Bottle. Sweet, oaky aroma. Oakiness blends nicely w/ the flavor of this brew. Tobacco, spice, dark fruit, and alcohol burn all prevalent. Reminds me of Iron Hill Oak Aged Quad. Very good pre-Thanksgiving brew.

Courtesy boboski. Multi dark brown with a frothy, off white cap. Smoke, earth, grainy and rich malt, subtle vinous notes, and a very subtle warmth. Full, balanced palate. Excellent. Unexpected. Another bottle courtesy of Shadey in the fridge. I’m hyped.

Shared by OhioDad at the Columbus tasting. This one poured a nice brown color with a tan head. The aroma was full of oak and syrup. A nice mouthfeel as well. The taste was very much of a barrel aged brew with a hint of warmth and a yeasty flavor in the end.

750ml bottled Feb 2005 - thanks jjpm74 - Aroma of cabernet sauvignon, alcohol, cherry, dark malt, yeast, and lots of oak. Pours transparent deep ruby red with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor smacks you in the face with an oak 2X4. Still some red wine, alcohol, and dark fruit in there, but smashed by oak. Palate is chalky, tart, and dry. A ton of oak hides much of the nuances this brew might have had, but tasty none the less.

From the Columbus tasting, shared by Ohiodad! Reddish-brown pour, brief tan head. Spicy aroma...a good bit of vanilla and oak. The flavor had some bourbon notes along with some yeast and spice elements. Nice carbonation over the palate.
