Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

Peppery hoppy bite with smooth yeast malt balance underneath. A nice enjoyable brew.

pretty strange, we cracked a bottle of this in between some big beers so its lightness was exacerbated. distinct belgian yeast aroma, peppercorn, hay and apple. very soft, not a lot of flavour and petered out a little in the finish

Poured little head and there was zero lacing. Head didn’t last. It looks like a hazy wheat beer. Sweet smell with a swet taste. Almost like syrupy pop. I don’t think this fits well as a summer beer. Doesn’t seem light enough. I don’t dislike it but maybe not right for the stated style.

Very good summer beer. Good blond appearance with a big white head. Def yeasty aroma. I didn’t expect a Belgian background on a summer beer, but it made the taste interesting. Great, sweet aftertaste. Going to try more Allagash beers.

My favorite summer ale ive tried thus far. Small head with a very yeasty smell and finishes clean. Blondish in color.

Pour is a brass color with soapy white head. The head quickly dissipates except for the ring around the glass and some sparce lacing. The aroma is interesting. Thick aroma of sweet yeast and honey and banana. The flavor is light and refreshing, but sweet with a touch of sharp carbonation. I wouldn’t expect a Belian Ale to be a "Summer" ale, but it is a nice fit.

There’s something to be said about excellent low gravity ales. However, you would say something quite more reserved about this. It is quite drinkable and does have a nice glowing orange color. But it lacks something--perhaps a more assertive yeast character. The palate is somewhat watery and the carbonation weak and boring. There aresome nice honey in spice qualities hiding out in there but they shouldn’t be hiding out. At least not when they come to my house.
