Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

Tastes of citrus and spice. Pours golden and is somewhat refreshing. I'm a huge fan of Allagash, I just didn't think this was anything special.

Batch #9 – Clear golden-amber body with a foamy off-white head. Lacing decent but nothing spectacular. The aroma is that of orange rind, and just a hint of soap. The flavor is bitter up front but then quickly fades into a nice citrus kick that further mellows into a bit of sweet malt. The body is a smooth medium palate pleaser. Overall a pretty decent beer. Not as good as some of Allagash’s higher alcohol offerings but still pretty nice.

Bottle pours hazy golden with a frothy white head.   Lively carbonation & sticky lacing draw me closer.   Wonderful aroma of corriander, flowers, and Belgian yeast.   Initial taste is earthy, yeasty, with a hint of orange zest.   Mouthfeel is solid, light, and well carbonated.   However, the finish is too watery, as well as musty, moldy, and a bit sour.   Some notes of yeast in the aftertaste.   Speciale smells promising, but doesn't deliver in the end.   Not as good as the majority of the other Allagash offerings, but still decent.   Thanks goes out to raindog for the trade!

Hazy orange with a large big bubbled head and some suspended floaters. Rich bready aroma with a touch of citrus in the background. Ends sweet. This is the best beer that I've ever had that was labeled "Summer Ale"

Batch #9. Poured cloudy yellow-orange with an off-white head and plenty of sediment in the body. Vinous, apple peel aroma. I expected this to be sweet but was surprised by the very strong estery nature of the body- lots of earthy, bready flavors with apple peel and spice. Flavor is in common with many Tripels but the alcohol content of this beer is lower, leading to a smooth, creamy sip. Good stuff!

Batch#7 Large white head, lasting with lots of lace. Hazy gold/copper color. Fruity, black pepper nose. Med/light body, kinda watery, thin. Good spicey flavors with some toasted malt flavors backing them up. Finish is fairly dry, a bit thin though.
