Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

Batch #9. The appearance was a large sized white head that contained fine-small bubbles. The body had quite a bit of lively carbonation, it was clear and had a golden hue. The nose was malty, hoppy, and fruity. The taste of this beer was sweet and fruity with a smooth, dry, thin and watery mouthfeel. This was a light bodied beer with fair lacing. Not a bad Belgian, but not a truly great one either.

Batch #9. This brew poured a large head of foamy finely sized white colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a carbonated light yellow orange colored transparent bidy and a fair lacing. The aroma of mild malt, hop and citrus was not real enticing. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth with a slight tingle and no afterbite. The flavor is mellow with notes of yeast, malt, some sweetness and is very well balanced. Nothing spectacular here but still a nice average brew.

A very nice refreshing beer, dark golden with a nice lacy head, a bit of a cloudy appearance, clean & crisp, well balanced, but still an average beer

Bottle. Golden orange in color with a foamy tan head. A mild aroma with citrus and spice and a hint of sweet candy. Medium to light body with a dry floral finish.

2003 bottle Reserve SpecialePours a soft orange with some deeper tones of gold and light beige. Mostly clouded. Big off-white head. Fairly faint aroma of the typical Allagash belgian yeast, but has a nice almost nutty malt aroma. Begins fairly light, low carbonation and lots of yeasty flavor, body is light to medium, prone to wateriness, but a good dry toffee malt is slightly apparent. A bit of spiciness and a fairly light, airy texture. I think this beer is underated, as it is not trying to be a super imperial ultra deluxe premium crazily malted/hopped beer, but the balance is there (could use a bit more sweet malt) and it is very subtle. Pleasant honey spice aftertaste that lingers. Well made. 2004 bottle Summer Ale Is it me or does this stuff not really taste the same? Much fruitier, good light yeast notes, lightly chewy and very pleasant.

Short-lived but rocket off-white head. Very hazy copper color. The aroma reminds me of a saison with its tart, hoppy scent. The flavor leaves a lot to be desired, because it reminds me of drinking Miller Lite (or some other BMC product) out of a can. It has a very weak, watery start a with an almost metallic aftertaste.

Orange gold color. Large foamy head. Aroma is fruity. A medium to lighter bodied Belgian Ale. Malts are fruity and spicy. Very fine lively carbonation. A little cider like. It’s very fruity and yeasty, and surprisingly dry. This would make a very good session beer. Alcohol is only 5%, but it has a lots of some of the complex flavors that I would expect in a much higher alcohol ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
