Pours a thin, white, quick dissipating head and a light orange body. Aroma of slightly sweetened malt and tangerines. Pleasant light flavour of orange, coriander and ever so slight spices. Thin - but not in a bad way; more of a daily drinkable beer. Lasting bitterness in the finish. Very good... bordering on excellent! raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA

Mouthfeel is soft, full, with the subtle carbonation. Rich, malty flavors. The wheat, yeast, orange rind is subtle, but not hidden. Finish is bready, slightly sweet(malt),with great hop notes lingering.Hops are spicy/floral.Hmm,this is a good, suprise, of a beer. This would be the summer beer for me,being it were available here. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2003 Strange, very different, not at all what I was expecting! This brew was acquired in trade with jgb9348, a great beer trader. At first I thought this beer tasted strangely off balance, but I just ate half a homegrown pineapple and my mouth has not totally adjusted from that burning pineapple citrus tang. ** After further examination, this beer decided to introduce itself. This Summer Ale said, “ I am a complex Belgian Ale, not one to be overlooked, I have a large wheat presence, I’m very citric, yeasty, and I’m going to hit you with a bitter bite in the finish. I’m noticeably malted, and it’s apparent in my B.O., that’s Beer Odor. I have a floral earthy aroma, like that fresh smell after a hard rain, and if you drink a 1998 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon before you rate me I will talk to you!” Once the beer started talking I quickly finished it off in fear of it getting into fisticuffs with my
keyboard. It’s a good thing I’m going on vacation tomorrow, otherwise, I would have thought I’ve lost my mind and gone insane! Thanks Jeremy! Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2003 My first sip of this beer made me involuntarily utter "whoa!" aloud. Complex, tart, estery, herbal and spicy aroma, some definite clove and lemony citrus, along with sweet, toasty malt, wheat, honey, pear, coriander, pepper and more. Light-medium amber color, tiny suspended particles throughout, with a fine, off-white head. Citrusy, sweet and tart up front, the middle seeing a blend of fruity spiciness and herbal, lightly tobaccoish, green, leafy and faintly earthy hop flavors, with a well-balanced, lightly bitter and acidic finish. Quite an interesting, unique and enjoyable summer offering. I was disappointed when my glass ran dry. Cheers, Jeff! Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA

The beer pours a translucent deep gold to amber color, the head Brobdingnagian in size, spumescent in texture and a winsome light tan in color, as the head evanesces the lace left behind forms a concealing sheet upon the glass. Nose is dominated by the malt, crisp and fresh, lightly sweet, as is the malt-laden start with the top middling in feel to the palate. Finish is stinging in its acidity, the hops robust in their spiciness, quite dry and long lasting aftertaste, another great beer from a great brewery TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2003 Speckled toasted amber. Dense, sticky lacework. Tangy mixture of flowers, banana, pound cake, and cloves. Pervasively estery. Herbal and metallic undertones with notes of leather, toasted hay, earth, melon, and buttered bread. Elegant feathery carbonation, soft as a cloud. Starts tingly and spicy, without overstating the spices, before a lovely herbal and firm crackery integration. Undertones of medicine, phenols, nectarines, and esters. Hints of star anise and acidity gracefully unite with a toasty and herbal pairing. Finishes round and semi-dry with a restrained toasty finish, nutty yeast flare, and noble hop tease. This is marvelously balanced and highly drinkable, equally touting of its hops, malt, and yeast components. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 1, 2003 Some wheat flavor and some sourness. Overall it's fairly average - Quenching & lacking in much distinctive flavor.
But is this really a "Belgian?" fishonmyplane (125), Newington, Connecticut, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2003 Color is light apricot, with a very small white head that goes away quickly. Aroma is quite noticable right after you open the bottle; yeasty, and definitely belgian in style-very pleasant (I think the other raters underrated this aroma). The flavor is sweet, with a hint of strawberry in there. It's a bit light but that's alright by me in a summer beer, especially when it's done this well. Another winner from Allagash.
