Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

The beers colors are a hazy orange/yellow. The nose is very light with a touch of spiciness. The body is light and refreshing with pleasant citrus undertones. The finish is fruity and flavorful. This beer reminds me of a toned down wit.

Hazy yellow to golden color wit ha moderate head. Malty and spicy aromas with yeast accompanying in the background. Definite flowery hop characteristics in the nose as well. Crisp maltiness and hop astringency in the flavor profile along with a classic wheat texture and flavor. A little thin in body. Finishes dry and mildly bitter.

Batch 7. Hazy gold, with a quickly diminishing head. Sour nose, mildly hoppy. Light body, lightly malty, lightly hoppy...I guess watery does describe it. Ok, but not great. Seems pretty carbonated too...

Unfiltered, amber appearance. No head to speak of. Malts and spices in the aroma. Very nice yeast flavor with hints of lemon grass. Spicy kick in the finish. Most pleasant.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cereal), lightly hoppy (lemon, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with a light note of clove. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Pleasant but not especially interesting.

This ale pours a hazy amber color with a small, white head that does not linger. It has a nice aroma of yeast and fruity esters with a bit of malt and spices mixed in. Medium body with moderate amounts of carbonation, the flavor is yeasty and mildly spicy with a dry, malty finish. Tastes and smells like it probably has some wjeat in it. Very refreshing, tangy, and spicy-a nice treat for any summer's day.

12 oz bottle. When I first read about this, I was under the impression that it was a replacement for or just a name change of the Speciale Reserve. Well, given that the SR is still available in a new batch that we just got, I guess I'm probably wrong. So exciting, a new McNeills and a new Allagash the same weekend!

Handsome cloudy bright golden body, very small but steady white head. Nose of orangepeel, coriander, cloves. Flavor rather sour and peppery for such a light beer, with a fair amount of hops at the end. Quite yeasty, tangy. Not bad, but really has almost no sweetness which I regard as near-essential for the style. I'll definitely have it again, as its Allagash and I could just be having a bad tasting period (I'm not liking ANYTHING the last couple of days), but right now I'd say it's weak and the least of their esteemed line.

Bursting fresh coriander nose. Good head and lacing. Easy going wheat and coriander flavor. Smooth and easy with a refreshing sour snap. Basically a summer version of the White.
