Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

Fruity, medium-light and unremarkable. Probably a good choice for New England summers but the dullest of the Allagash brews I have tried.

12 oz bottle-thanks to singlelensref for ths one. pours a hazy orange hue with a small sudsy white head. aroma has notes of sour lemons, bananas, and light grains. this beer is light in body, but quite refreshing. flavors of lemon, banana and light grains. not much on the finish makes me think that this bottle maybe from last summer. i would love to re-rate a fresh bottle sometime soon.

Spicy aroma, cloudy amber body with a small head. Despite the complexity, it has a light and sweet finish. Considering the only other summer ale I’ve had was Sam Adams, this was an easy winner for the category. It isn’t as complex as most Belgian ales, but it is certainly enjoyable. What is here is great. A great "get wasted" beer. (3.8) Rerate: This came off as a bland summer ale. Once it warmed it was basically undrinkable. This made one of the few beers I have had to pour out. Drink it cold or flush it. While there is quite a bit of complexity here, it still came off as a blah beer.

Bottle. Spicy, peppery, orangey, musty citrus aroma. Slightly acidic and tart. Mild-moderately hazy golden-copper color with a nice off-white frothy head with nice staying-power. Start is light, thin and a bit watery with citrus orange and lemon rinds in the middle. Finishes smooth with a very minute bitterness. This beer fails to live up to the appearance and aroma. Too thin and bland.

Do these guys make a bad beer. Nice and yeasty pouring a glowing amber. Fruity and peppery all at the same time makes for a wonderful, relaxing quaff.

750mL Bottle (Speciale Reserve, Batch 9). Pours an almost clear golden color with about 1/4" retained white head. Pepper, yeast/bread, coriander, and cobwebs hit the nose. Belgian yeast and a bouquet of fruits & spices come through in the taste. Clean mouthfeel, and slightly dry. Bready finish. A little sweet for my liking, but fairly well-balanced and easy to drink.

Bottle. Nose-sawdust, wood, tannins, oak barrels, and corriander. Hazy iced tea apperance with a thin head. Taste-yeasty, tannic, very clean with notes of black pepper, plum, bread, dough, alcohol, and tannins. Very puckering. Overall not very impressive but very drinkable.
