Commercial Description:
Allagash Speciale Reserve is a refreshing, light-copper colored beer brewed in the tradition of the Belgian ales of Brabant. We brew it in limited quantities each spring, and its distinctive toasted malt flavor, and herbal and fruit bouquet make it a perfect beer for a warm summer day. Suggested Food Pairings: Enjoy Allagash Speciale Reserve on its own, or with a light appetizer. Also try pairing it with shellfish, such as the traditional Belgian dish, Moules-frites . Serving/Pouring Suggestions: Allagash Speciale Reserve is re-fermented in the bottle in the traditional Methode Champenoise, and therefore contains a natural yeast sediment. Allow the bottle to rest upright for a few minutes prior to serving, then carefully decant the beer off the yeast. Style: Brabant Style Ale (Belgian Pale) Available In: 750 ml Bottle - Seasonal Alcohol Content: 5% ABV Original Gravity: 1047 Recommended Serving Temperature: 45-60 degrees F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55 degrees F (Not recommended for long periods of cellaring)

750 mL bottle (corked & caged; Batch #10, sampled April 2005): brilliant, hazed apricot with a patchy, lily pad like, white foam. Sweet melony aroma with clove esters and honey drizzled bananas. Yeasty palate that has a fluffy carbonation and slightly astringent aftertaste. Metallic undertones and acidity are noticeable through the buttery dough, sweet melon, flower petal and cracked pepper flavours. A really nice, easy drinking (almost session qualities) and flavourful brew, that has a dry, lightly toasted grain finish.

750 mL bottled as Speciale Reserve, Batch #9. Bright fruity aroma, dates, toffee, clove, earthy yeast. Slightly hazy amber color, good white head. Nice crisp Belgian flavor, biscuit malt, light fruits, kind of earthy and spicy, nothing over the top. Medium body, vinous, refreshing. A really nice low alcohol (the only reason I can think its scores are as low as they are) Belgian-style summer ale, crisp and refreshing yet has lots of flavor and aroma to keep it interesting.

Speciale Reserve 750, batch 9. Pours light brown/ golden with a small fluffy head. Aroma is fruity (pears, apples) and slight belgian spice. Taste is about the same, but fairly watered down. Average stuff.

Batch #10. Pours a light copper color with a great, lasting head and good legs. Aroma is of toasted malts, apples, and a floral boquet, perhaps roses. A slight hop nose. Taste includes apples, apricots, orange peel, and a strong malt flavor. A good mouthfeel with a carbonation packed afterbite.

Hazy copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma and flavor had some sweet bread, lemon, cinammon (?), and perfumy flowers. The feel was very crisp, slightly watery (empty), with a dry finish.

Bottle from Slob. Pours a hazy copper/amber color. Nice white head fades to ring the edge leaving good lacing. Aroma is sugary and yeasty, a touch of caramel. Very lively on the tongue. Lighter bodied. No real complexity, but pleasant. Fairly lingering hop presence.

Pours hazy gold with a small head. Nice yeasty aroma, almost like a tripel. Flavor is a little bland, but not too bad. Very drinkable.
