Sam’s Downers Grove
Batch #94
Allagash Tripel Reserve a hazy golden that turns straw when held to the light. Tiny carbonation bubbles rise quickly to the thin wispy white cap that sits up top. Really not much in the looks department.
The aroma makes up for the lack of appearence. Sweet rip peaches and tangerines start things off. Biscuity malts are faint and in the background. Hint’s of candi sugar come forward. There’s a zesty sweet snap in there from the tangerines.
Flavor is similiar to the aroma with ripe juicy fruits coming from every direction. Sweet tangerine zestiness up front with a mild dusty yeastiness. Candi sugar and mild alcohol come through mid palate but are quickly overtaken by juicy peaches on the finish. Very nicely done.
Lively mouthfeel with prickly carbonation and a zestiness that awakens the tastebuds. Each sip leaves me wanting another.
Easy drinker for the abv involved. Refreshing and tasty.
A solid offering from Allagash that has that X factor I can’t put my finger on but keep wanting more. Very nicely done.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2007 Bottle in Westmalle glass. Pours hazy orange with a lasting white head but not much lacing. Aroma of sour/tartness like citrusy hops. Sweet initial flavor with pleasant spicy finish Medium-full bodied with excellent creamy mouthfeel and excellent soft carbonation. A very good example of the style worthy of its Belgian counterparts. Derek881 (495), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2007 A wonderful abbey tripel style ale, that I poured from a large bottle (marked "Batch #90") into a trappist glass. It had a cloudy gold-amber color with a medium-sized foamy white head with average retention. There was a strong yeast aroma, with alot of sweet caramel malt, and floral and fruity tones, with noticeable banana. A background to the aroma of some earthy and herbal hops for balance. The taste was sweet, with a slight wheatyness, and a touch of sourness underneath. Surprisingly, there was practically no bitterness in this beer, and even the alcohol finish was sweet. The body was somewhat thin, with low carbonation and light fizzyness, and a sweet wetness throughout, yielding to a slightly dry and warm alcoholic ending. A great tripel ale, and a reasonable price, but packs a punch when taken at once. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 21, 2007 this beer poured a beautiful deep gold with an orange hue into a Trappist glass, with a big rocky head. aroma was full of fruity esters of banana and bubble gum, also a slight bit of honey and some spice in the background. Flavor was subtle and complex, with the highlight being a note that on the back of the tongue resembled toast with honey. flavor also had a light spiciness, and a bready yeastiness. palate was medium but full with a medium amount of carbonation. definitely one of my favorite if not my current favorite triple. joergen (8610), Frederiksberg, Denmark

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 19, 2007 Bottle. White creamy and very high and long lasting white head. Haz yellow body. "Muddy wateres" aroma. I guess its barley ´malt with a good deal of alcohold. Not very good though. Pretty sweet and fruity flavor for a tripel. Barley malt flavor with a fair amount of hops. Falvor much better than indicated by the muddy aroma. Feels quite linght in flavor in spite of 9% alcohol which is hiddenb i´n a peasant manner. Far overpricen in Denmark though.
