Commercial Description:
This golden hued ale is marked by passion fruit and herbal notes in the aroma, with subtle suggestions of banana and honey surfacing from its deep and complex palate. The Tripel's finish is remarkably long and soothing.

Pours sligtly hazed tawny yellow w/ a full, semi creamy froth. Good head retention w/ a full canopy and a fluffy ring. Aroma of banana citrus and vanilla creamy malts. Medium nectar w/ soft residual effers. Texture is velvety. Malted banana citrus and creamy vanilla spice protrude w/ a mild sweetness. A persistant peachpit bittering component sets in at mid palate and sticks through to the finish.

This is a welcome tasting after recently trying Dicks Gran Cru (too spicy) and Rock Bottom MaryJane (too sweet). The other are good beers, but this one hits the nail on the head. A beautiful pour, great aroma, exquisitely balanced taste, clean dry finish.

750mL bottle, Batch #88. Pours a slightly hazy honey golden with a frothy three finger eggshell head. Good retention. Aroma of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, banana, citrus, pears, white pepper, and it’s a little bit musty. Flavor is yeasty and fairly sweet and hot. Everything else in the aroma comes through in the flavor. Minimal bitterness with a dry finish that lingers with the yeast. Full body with moderate carbonation and a fairly creamy body. This was an excellent tripel. Wish we could get more the the dubbel and white in Iowa.

25.4 oz bottle. Batch 77. Clear gold with a dollop of meringue and generous lacing. Yeasty honey; lemon and sourdough bread. Bubbly with a full mouth feel. Heavy for a tripel. Apricots, pepper and lemon zest. Undertones of banana and melon. Dry, clenching finish. Oily on the palate. Grows on you but still a chore to finish solo.

On tap at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse, thanks mtoast. Allagash XXX , I’ve been waiting to taste this. This beer pours hazy pale yellow but there are no precipitants within. Has a nice white creamy head but it also has some medium and larger bubbles that prompts an uneven foam. The aroma is mild, slightly sweet and lacking of the typical beery yeast aroma so common in today’s beers. Oooh, the initial flavor impact is quite strong, but not as strong as the 9% would indicate. Alky bitter on the beginning and alky bitter to the palate. The alky content is certainly prevalent in this brew. Nice lacing on the sides of the glass as you drink. Tho this is above average bitterness, it is not quite as oppressive in the alky as that Southern Tier trippel I recently had. Southern tier is much less refined than this brew, the Allagash lacks the in your face characteristic. The finish is medium high bitterness that can not be appreciated by my lager loving girlie taste buds. It reminds a little of bitter cough medicine. This brew does not stand a chance against white Chimay or Grimbergen Blonde. Slightly below par when compared to Victory Golden monkey as far as enjoyablity goes. I’m not a real fan of trippels but since I have been spoiled by Chimay and Grimbergen, I now expect more from this style.

very nice hazy orange color. aroma is very much full of yeast, with some ripe fruit, in the background. Flavour is very yeasty with some citrus backdrop. lots of banana, and honey and a bit of clove, and a nice feeling on the palate. Carbonation is very nice, really smooth.......very nice beer.

Pours hazy golden with a good head although the bubbles are a bit big and disapated quickly. Aromas of tangerines, fruit, pilsner malt and alcohol. The flavor is of candy coated pilsner malt, little to no hop aroma or flavor, not enough hops to balance the sweet sticky malt. Finishes malty sweet with not enough dryness on the finish, a bit cloying, not much else going on here, I did’nt even finish it to be honest. Expected more from Allagash.
