Rastacouere (5226), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Classy bold and very sweet yeasty Allagash special.
I like:
Appealing grape flavour extraction, not juicy, but vinous, spicy, gently tannic. Classy carbonation, ample bodied. Broad estery profile procures an abundant harvest fruit profile.
I dislike:
A bit overwhelming in sweetness. Quickly fading head. Lack of balancing feature, the grape is not too acid and the bitterness is limited to a powdery floral softness. Perhaps not as special as most of their other ~20$ special offerings.
General_Gao (2405), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jul 28, 2008 750ml bottle. Smelled of cherry, apple, and cinnamon. Not unlike pie or mulled wine. Poured a hazy dark orange color. The head was thick, foamy, and off white with an orange tint. Some lace was left behind on the glass. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. Tasted of mixed fruits (ala fruit punch), mixed with sparkling wine, subdued clove, and a dash of cinnamon. Pretty good stuff, but edged out by it’s sister Victoria. daknole (568), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 12, 2008 interesting beer but not amazing. I smell yeast, some funk, green grapes and malt Flavor is smooth and nice, but not complex. Tart? Barely. Tastes like a boring Belgian blonde with a tad more tartness. BlackDonald (927), On a beer trip all over the USA, Georgia, USA Jun 24, 2008 Distinctly different, but surprisingly not a favorite, considering I was really pissed off after trying about how much I paid for this and its sister beer. Its not bad, but I was expecting much much more. Its a very radiant and elegant looking beer in the glass, and I love the nose. The palate is not quite as tart as I was expecting, but instead has very complemntary flavors of red fruits, intermingled with the yeasty spiciness. It is what it is, just not much to it as far as complexity. Rather simple for Allagash Palidor19 (1231), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 17, 2008 Quite exquiste. flavorful with nice European malts. the grape flavor is in the background yet has a great presence. one to enjoy with fine cuisine. nick76 (2001), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 17, 2008 The aroma is unimpressive with malt, cheese yeast, and grapes. The appearance is deep gold amber with a nice head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall I like it but it’s not as good as I was hoping.
