unclemike (328), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 13, 2008 bottle. nice cloudy pale yellow appearance. just what you look for in a witbier. the head faded rather quickly but the clove and coriander aroma is there. quite a bit of carbonation but it doesn’t detract form the taste. the unique element that allagash has added is a mild bitter which i haven’t come across in the whites that i’ve tried. very nice. it gives it a crisp, refreshing edge that is sometimes lacking in this style. balances the sweet banana and spice well. definitely worth picking up.
joebudzjoe (102), Connecticut, USA Aug 21, 2008 Smooth and frothy, nice cloudy orange body. Wheat flavor with orange, oats and melon undertones. Not a bad white brew. illinismitty (1397), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 20, 2008 Draft at McGrath’s pub in Harrisburg, PA.I have had this in the past many times, but since Ross has a man crush on the brewers at Allagash, I figured I would enter this rating to shut him up. Pours amber orange with a thin white head. Aroma of orange and wheat malts. Medium bodied but with a refreshing texture- with no wateryness. Flavor of orange, coriander, wheat malt, and belgian phenols. Attenuation is normal, somewhere in the middle. Finish has a semi dry yeast and clove dominance, perhaps a very very faint hint of hops. Enjoyable, but not the best wit beer in the universe like Ross makes it out to be. jkaiser (68), USA Aug 16, 2008 Nice white beer. Smells and tastes like an American verison of the Belgium beer where it orginates from. Medium bodied, orange and corriander. Almost no hint of hops. Good for beginners. dwyerpg (2032), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Aug 14, 2008 This is a quite spicy white. Lots of coriander, some hiding orange. Pretty nice; good and spicy. Nik925 (90), California, USA Aug 11, 2008 A mild smell of lemon/wheat/honey. Hard to distinguish what all is going on, flavor ends up being a little bit muddy instead of complex. The banana/clove flavor from the yeast is hidden/muddled in with everything else. With all my complaints out of the way, its still pretty good (more true to the style than other American attempts I’ve tried).
