Bottle, Glenridding mini market. As the comments below say, it’s a stout. Good roastiness, pleasant pitch black appearance, with a slighlty tan head. Nothing spectacular, but a good all round beer.

Classic stout pour, taste is malty, bitter, smokey and coffee, quite sweet before the sharp bitter burnt malt finish. Pleasant stout.

Cask@Pigs Ear Fest. Pretty sweet it has to be said, and on the thin side of things. Some roastyness in the finish, but its very subtle. Pretty below average i thought.

A Sim rate (cask at Pig’s Ear BF): Sweet, caramel aroma that’s very rich. Roasty coffee flavour with a slightly bitter finish. OK, but not great. It’s a stout... is a stout... is a stout.

Cask at Pig’s Ear BF 2007. Coffee, some smokiness, but not overwhelming. Sourish finish.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml, from Harbury Beer Fest ’07. Black with a slight brown head. Poured flat and still, difficult to get a head on it, licorice aroma. Thin, watery beer in the bottle, it doesn’t shout stout at you at all. Plenty of smoky, burnt notes, a bit bon-firey in character, but much too thin to get much else. Disappointing.

Cask Handpump at the Smithfield Hotel, Manchester 17/01/2007 Small tan head. Black with some alcohol present. Crisp and smooth on the palate. Bitter roast finish.
