pintbypint (879), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 25, 2008 341ml brown bottle (fresh, Summer ’08 seasonal) Orangey gold colour, very light haze. Full white head, some lace. Strong sweet, candyish raspberry nose, though not unpleasant. Flavour has wheaty dry base malt udnerneath some sweet raspberry notes, faint tartness. Finish is quite dry. effervescent, light bodied, ok summer thirst quencher.
fiulijn (5860), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Aug 5, 2008 Draught at Hop In Brew Pub, Calgary Cloudy blond color; creamy head. It has a creamy aroma and flavor, with delicate raspberries, light residual sweetness and no acidity, and the bitterness is correctly low. I don’t fancy fruit beers, but I have to say this one is well brewed. DuffMan (1935), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 12, 2008 Last year, at a small festival, the Alley Kat spokesperson said this beer was being retired. I guess they weren’t prepared to let it go just yet! Bright clear burnt orange colour, decent short-lived head. Raspberry candy aroma dominates, but there is a sweet malt under there too. Unfortunately this came across as more raspberry candy synthetic flavour for me (I think I’m sensitive to this particular ester, because it really turns me off once I’m cued into it), however there is a bit of a perfumey element that at least made it interesting. There is some nice malt as well, making this drinkable in the end.
