Moderate creamy head and dark, with a prune, raisin and fudge aroma, a bit musty. Pushing full bodied for sure, sweet and quite fruity almost to excess, with an acidic tang and a little salt. Smooth caramel finish and not a hint of bitterness or alcohol. This one was plenty ripe alright, and with a 25.11.00 on the back label it ought to be. Good though, and I hope I run across a fresh sample one of these days to compare.

Damn good doppelbock. Very malty, with enough dark malts to add a bit of dryness to the sweet body. Great after dinner beer.

Very dark brown in colour with a nice sized light tan coloured head. Aroma of concord grapes, metal, malt and a bit of prunes. Medium to Full-bodied; Nice fruity taste then fading to a malty and spicey finish. The prunes, grapes, raisins and chocolate hits up front initially with strong sweetness. Aftertaste shows a drying character with malt most prevalent. Overall, a nice doppelbock complete with fruity and chocolate tastes! I bought this 16 ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 04-December-2003.

Bottle. Poured dark brown, clear with garnet highlights when held to a light source. Moderate tan head that dissipated leisurely. Aroma is rich molasses malts, prunes and pine with a bit of spice sprinkled throughout. Flavor comes on strong, dark roasted maltiness, hints of chocolate, raisins, figs and allspice with a bitter-sweet finish. Mouthfeel is round with a creamy carbonation. All in all a fine dopplebock.

Wow- it appears the ratings are all over the board for this doppelbock. Poured a dark red-brown, with a white ring of foam clinging to the glass, leaving nice lacing. Strong raisin, prune, and caramel aroma. Likewise, the flavor was dominated by raisin and caramel. Medium-bodied. Alcohol was surprisingly subdued and did not make a noticeable impression. Quite a good doppelbock, better IMO than Optimator or Salvator, although the body could be thicker.

Poured a dark brown, reddish, almost purple color with a medium sized light tan, creamy head and nice lacing. Dry, roasted aroma of chocolate cake. Roasted, bitter, malt taste. Chocolate was prominent while some dark fruits lay in the background.

Dark dark brown color, but surprisingly only a light sweet nose (expected more aroma). Heavy malt body. Maybe chocolate in the middle. Fruits like apricots and raisins. Specy end - nutmeg? and some licorice. Thick body and a lingering sweetness onthe lips.
