It had a sour taste with a dry finish. This is something I would expect to get if I finished all of my dinner. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 7, 2003 This brew poured a medium sized head of mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a good lacing and a transparent brown colored uncarbonated body. The aroma was mildly malted and the mouthfeel was smooth but had a bitter finish that was atypical of a Doppelbock. It had an odd flavor with malty carmel mixed with something else I could not put my finger on. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 22, 2003 Deep reddish brown color with a small creamy head. Dark fruits, heavy malt and some smoke in the aroma. Big, whopping malt body (pumpernickle bread dough???) with mild roasted malt character along with smoke in the background. Very clean finish with no lingering aftertaste. Very nice. Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2003 Dark brown/red/black body topped with a generous tan head. From beginning to end, for my tastebuds, this was all about the licorice - especially before it warmed up. Other great flavors were caramel, roast coffee and raisons. Surprisingly good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 14, 2003 Dark copper brown color with a dark tan lightly lacing head. Aroma is bursting with sweet malty bockiness. Chewy caramel and cookie dough flavor with a chocolate and noble hop finish. It's not Andechser or Celebrator, but this is a fine German doppelbock.
