One pint 9 oz bottle from Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad: Deep burgandy color heldup to a flashlight with a small fading beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, light chocolate and a wiff of cola. Flavor starts sweet with raisin and prune followed by some nuttiness, a hint of smoke and a dry merlot like finish. Medium body is creamy with moderate carbonation.

Beer pours with a nice frothy head, but no lacing, the exact color of cola. Aroma is hard to describe...it smells sweet. The flavor is also really sweet, bordering on but not quite too sweet. A lot going on in this one, sweet dark fruit, some earthiness...not quite smokey but maybe musty and nutty in some fashion. Really hard to describe, but pretty good. The mouthfeel was rich and almost crisp like a lager. I enjoyed this.

Nce aroma, smoky malts. Average to smallish head... diminishing to lace. The flavor is malty, dark and sweet like you’d expect from a doppelbock but maybe a tad more watery than I’d expect?

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a beige head. Malty aroma with chocolate and caramel notes. Very carbonated which takes away from the richness and smoothness of the chocolate malt flavor. Nothing special.

Bottle from The Keg - Ruby and clear with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma of munich malt, toffee, caramelized wort, and a few slight fruity notes. Tastes of munich malt, toffee, doughy, sticky malt. Full bodied with lush carbonation. Pretty enjoyable doppelbock, sometimes I find them a bit too sweet but this one struck a nice balance.

Pours brown with a soapy white head. Smells of roses, caramel, dark fruit, some sugar. Tastes nutty with some underlying sweetness and touches of bananas on the finish.

Pours a four finger light tan/cream head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Deep mahogany color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Slight roasted coffee nose. Flavor starts sweet, malty mellows to balanced. Kind of like a nut brown on steroids. Slightly higher ABV is completely hidden. $2.79 for a 500ml bottle from John’s Marketplace Portland, OR.
