The body is a murky, hazy, chestnut with chocolate brownie browns. The nose is nutty from afar. Drawn closer, toasty grains and sweet sugars and serious complexity flow from the glass. Description is difficult, but it’s lovely. Tropical and dark fruits are blended nicely and stick out, are out of place, yet remain interesting. Alcohol is completely masked. Strong holiday spice(peppermint) is eluded to. the warmewr it gets the nicer the nose becomes until room temperature and a knockout aroma is achieved. Incredibly unique, something I usually appreciate as long as the libation is quaffable and seems well-made. The flavor is malty and loaded with graham cracker goodness, a translation of fine malts and an old-school German recipe. Brown sugar and caramel are moderate. Sweetness is medium-high and works well. Acidity is nil. The finish is caramelly and leaves mild toast and chocolate lingering. The mouthfeel is smooth, medium to medium-full bodied and quite drinkable. Bonus points for ingenuity; otherwise a standard drinkability and little to write home about. Aroma is stick sweet, with cherry pie filling aroma that leads the charge, figs and sweet malt brings up the rear. The flavor is very sweet at first, with a slight bitterness on the finish. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2007 Duane shared this with me a while back. 500 mL bottle from Saarlander. Dark brown pour, very sweet malty aroma. The flavor missed the complexity of other, better doppelbocks that I’ve had in the past. Medium to thin mouthfeel. A bit one-dimensional. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA

Pours a clear dark amber with a big off-white head. Clean sweet bready malt with dark fruit. Pretty good, but not incredible for a doppelbock. BuckeyeBoy (1672), Boise, Idaho, USA

Tast was not to bad a little malt and spice. I could pick up on the Alcohol pretty easy. Odd for only 7.2%. DrnkMcDermott (1855), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Darker gold color. Nice malty smell that carries over to the taste. Slips easily down the throat. Maybe it’s my cold, but I get a little yeast in the palate, too. Still, it’s a good malty beer for a chilly day: whether an early Easter or in the fall. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
