Sweet caramel flavor, surprising light fruity finish. Not enough body or finish, but interesting overall sense. A bit of a strange combination though. This may have been a stale bottle-it was also flat... Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 9, 2007 Draught at Cap Ale House. Dark brown color, medium sized tan lasting head. Toasted malt aroma with caramel. A smooth and velvety texture and medium to full body. Caramel and munich malt flavor, slightly nutty and buttery with some breadiness. A fruity, grape or almost peach flavor in the finish. Well balanced and very good. eaglefan538 (2405), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 26, 2007 Bottle, pour is burgandy brownish, nice generous off-white head, great retention, nice lacing too. The aroma was quite pleasant, earthy, musty, lightly grassy, dark fruits, nice grapey-ness, itty bitty touch of floral notes. The flavor was earthy, grassy, grapey (this, the grapes, my favorite part), other dark fruits, dry breadiness, only light chocolate under it all, faint. The mouthfeel was dry, lager-like crisp, nothing sticky about this one. This was a darned impressive beer, very drinkable, lots going on, great melding of the various flavors. Not as much depth and slightly less complexity, but right up there with Celebrator and Andechs DD in my book. Wow, Allgauer makes something good? raymondwave (882), Finland

Deep blackish red with a small head. Nose is something very strange, which I couldn’t point at. Winegums? Some candy I used to eat as a child, Malts, and yes, blueberry, as someone said earlier. Flavour does not let down, as all the same ingredients can be found there too. It’s a very strange mixture of some old winegum like candy, malts, bitter roast, caramel. And the blueberries. Somewhat funky mixture and strangely berryish, but very good! Good lively carbonation. I’m sad I won’t be able to get this when I want. jefcon (1009), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2007 Hmmm. Deep, deep brown in color with a diminishing, but pretty, tan head. Aromas of yeast and bread, followed by a subtle hint of peach or apple and something earthy like wet wood. Taste is pretty bright and rich. Nearly all malt, with some coffee/chocolate on the short, dry finish. Also some sweet molasses-like flavor on the profile. Maverick34 (729), New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Light toasty yeast, dough and blueberry nose. Flavor is sweet plum, rich and active red grapes and light toast. Very good plum and grape flavor mixing with the grains. Pleasant and light, overall a great doppelbock with a light texture, a bit of a different doppelbock with that semi-sweet blueberry note. Plum purple color, dark with red hues, looks nice in the glass. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
