Nose of caramel, brown sugar, raisins, and a little walnut. Braudog is spot on with the grapes, as it reminds me of DHF’s Midas’ Touch. Aroma is also a bit metallic, almost in a pale lager sort of way, but not bad by any means. The flavor had the addition of some toasted grains, alcohol fairly noticeable but not as warming as the flavor would lead on. I was afraid this would be too sweet, but not at all. Medium smooth body with low carbonation. Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 15, 2007 Had this first at a Bon Vivant tasting and brought home a 0.5L bottle: It pours a nice roasty reddish brown with a big head of small bubbles. The aroma is sweet, almost raisiny or grapey, counterintuitive to the appearance. The flavor is similarly sweet and fruity, but there’s a big caramel-sugar anchor beneath it that makes this a wonderfully scrumptious winter beer. Prost! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Big, warm, malty, sweet doppel dunkle to remember. Great late winter beer before getting down with bocks. Deep brown-black almost burgundy body with little cream colored head. Very enjoyable and almost tart bitterness. Brings flavor to bland foods. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2007 500ml bottle. Pours an opaque, dark intense auburn. A finger’s worth of poofy white head forms and leaves very little lacing. Super-bready and intensely malty aroma. Flavor is similarly intensely bready, malty, caramel, lots and lots of sugary caramel-y malt. Very litle hop presence or dry grainy flavor. All malt. Hugely thick, sticky palate. Yep, this is my kind of beer. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2006 Beautiful in the glass, clear dark liquid topped by a moussy off-white head, sweet carmels in the nose, cocoas, little in the way of oxidized aromas and flavors though this isn’t the newest of bottles. Soft but subdued but much appreciated. Thanks Nat and Jim! Derek881 (502), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 11, 2006 Sampled poured from a 500 mL bottle, found in local liquor store. The beer poured a very dark brown color with a light tan head; medium carbonation. The flavor was a richly sour and somewhat bitter too, but still managed to have a slight sweetness interwoven. The beer had a soft finish, and I noticed the alcohol.
