Dark brown, nearly black, in color. Head is initially creamy and thick but diminishes to an small ring. Smell is malty with notes of raisins. Some sweetness becomes apparent in the middle along with toffee. A bit thin on the palate with only the slightest hint of carbonation. Definite alcohol burn in the back of the mouth and throat. Somewhat acidic. A rising earthy bitterness in the finish lingers for just a moment after the beer is swallowed.

Very dark, awesome aroma of toasted malts and molasses, smooth and lively mouthfeel. An excellent Dunkler Doppelbock!

(06.30.06) One pint 0.9 oz brown bottle as gift of Tom D.. Poured clear dark brown with small off-white head. Fruity aroma. Medium bodied dopplebock that starts with light malt sweetness and dried fruit (prune)/ roasted malt flavors. Finished with light malt fade and some light hop bitterness. Smooth and rich in the mouth. A very good drinkable beer. Thanks Tom!

Dark brown with a slightly purple hue. Very aromatic. Heavy on malt and dark fruits, especially prunes. Caramel and molasses in the finish. 7.2% was hidden very well. I got a pint of this stuff at Capital Ale House and it got progressively harder to finish. I think a 12 oz would have been plenty. That being said, it wasn’t bad at all.

Hazy dark brown color with a creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel and molassas. Heavy caramel flavor with some molassas in the end.

Bottel at Heavyweight open house. Pours a coca-cola like brown with a small tan head. Strong malty scents but not so present in taste. A bit of a let down after the strong aroma, but still pretty good.

Bottle at HW open house. Dark brown color with red highlights and a medium beige head. Nice malty aroma with lots of caramel and brown sugar. Toasted malt flavor with some caramel. Flavor was not as full and rich as the aroma led me to believe. Still quite good.

Rather than the aroma which included not only a malty sweetness and some alcohol nor the other pleasant dopplebock characteristics being a concern, I just want to know what the hell cambonator means ...
