The aroma is swet malty with notes of roasted bread. And the flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt as well as roasted bread and ending on a dry note. An OK beer, but somewhat simple for a Doppelbock. argo0 (6974), Washington DC, USA

Very enjoyable doppelbock. bu11zeye (5615), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Quickly fading light brown head tops the clear deep mahogany hue. Suprisingly buttery malts fit pretty well into the rich earthy and dark fruits aromatic components. Roasty for a german lager, offering plenty of dark berries, blackberries, prunes and sweet, drying earthy malt flavours. Surprisingly efficient carbonation, medium bodied. A stellar doppelbock take, combining the malt richness of the greats with the limited sweetness of the best. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 14, 2003 Dark copper brown color with a dark tan lightly lacing head. Aroma is bursting with sweet malty bockiness. Chewy caramel and cookie dough flavor with a chocolate and noble hop finish. It's not Andechser or Celebrator, but this is a fine German doppelbock. hopscotch (5511), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

This is a very clear, deep ruby/copper colored beer. The head is off-white in color, frothy and medium sized. It is mostly, but not entirely, diminishing with good lacing.
Well balanced beer with plenty of sweet malt and pungent hops. Tawny port up front and buttermilk on the backside. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Long, mildly tart, tangy finish with a hint of clover at the wee end. Damn nice beer. JorisPPattyn (5190), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2005 Cream to brown coloured medium head, rather stable; very dark brown beer with some disparate foxy highlights. Soft sweet nose, bit of dark chocolate, a tad soupy, parsley aroma. Sharpish dark malt taste with a dry-grainy touch. Ryebread, retronasal quite some sugar, but still overhung by a roasted malts flavour. Fruit sugar finish. Medium to well bodied, tad empty at the same time, since the restsugars seem to be all in filling the palate. Only after a long time sipping, a warming alcoholfeeling appears. Challenging beer - here’s one that has neither defaults, neither big plusses, and keeps me searching for hidden subtleties, as if I’m missing all its complexity. Strange. Dankeschön, Nat & Pivo.
