Bottled, 500ml, at The Bayerischer Hof, Kempten, Bayern. Hazed pale gold with white head. Clean cut Hefeweizen, understated on the spicy notes but slightly hoppier than most. A little bitter and a crisp malt. Reasonable without being exciting.

yello-misty color, medium foamy lasting head, fresh fruity, with some basic yeast a fine noiting special one.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow colour with a longlasting white head. Fruity spicy aroma with some yeasty hints. Sweet malty slightly spicy flavor with some hints of bananas and yeast. Fruity yeasty finish with soome bitterness.

Not the greatest hefeweizen I have ver tried, but decent at best. Has an aroma of fresh cut grass, with a bit of bubblegum and a bit of yeasty spiciness, but all kind of muddled in a very unimpressive maltiness, that is slightly watered down.

Pours gold with a creamy head. The aroma is a fruity, grassy small to it. The taste is mostly a grassy flavor. Not a great hef in my estimation.

A fizzy, white head is big to start over an opaque, amber/brown with thick, chunky yeast particles. Untraditional aroma with the yeasts taking a backseat to malts (toffee and chocolate) with a hint of Play-Doh, moldy fruit and light floral. Mid-bodied with a buttery palate, the flavor is bittersweet musty wheat with sour fruitiness. An unexpectedly interesting interpretation... likable but odd.

(500 ml bottle: $2.19 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) I’m not enthused by how this beer smells because I’d rather my German Hefeweizens didn’t smell grassy. Where’s the banana-like esters or the spice? Not all that inviting, but I have to go forward and taste this beer. The wheat malt flavor is there, but is pretty light and bland. Banana is very light, and spices seem non-existent. Geez, this is a really dull beer, guess I won’t be finishing this bottle. Even the body is fairly light, though not quite reaching a watery nadir. Pale golden color and somewhat cloudy in appearance. The lone area worthy of praise with this beer is the bubbly white head which rises to 2 or more inches in height, and takes several minutes just to settle to an inch. Even by the end of this session, there’s still a creamy quarter-inch of head remaining in the glass. No lacing, but that could be an issue with the hard water we have in San Diego. So, the beer is boring, but it’s somewhat pretty to look at. Unfortunately, this isn’t www.rateart.com.
