This was a tasty dunkel, very smooth with some rich caramel and chocolate with just a bit of nutty roastiness and bit of coffee. Well balanced with some nice carbonation levels.

Malty, with a nice caramel chocolate flavor, easy drinking, well carbonated. Decent.

Bottle. Translucent amber-mahogany in color with an ever-present foamy tan cap and corresponding wrung to serve as the head. Rubbery milk chocolate, mocha fudge brownies with live-in mocha beans, fudgey caramel chews and low-profile cocoa powder give a reserved aroma. Modest milk chocolate with a copper can storing dulled pecans leads to a bit of a flavor twang. Subtle, highly carbonated body gives credence to a spicier rendition. Mocha bean mash with chocolate cake powder continues the tradition. Substantive chewy toffee profile with a rounded out, dry milky cafe cooler feel to it. Mocha grinds, espresso dashes and wholesome milk chocolate cocoa mix wrap around the tongue for the finish.

Clear amber/brown body beneath a small, white head. The malts are evident in the aroma and flavor. Notes of nuttiness, caramel, spice. Lively carbonation, medium body. Slightly metallic tinge in the taste. Nothing to write home about.

(500 ml bottle: $1.99 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) A nice malty dark beer with that wonderful German maltiness I like so much. Only mildly sweet and the bitterness is light as well, but there’s a modest sourness lurking in the background the entire time. Still, though, it’s quite tasty. The nose is malty but isn’t especially aromatic. Body is medium, barely, and the beer is dry on the palate. Hazy medium brown body with a light tan head that doesn’t rise more than a half an inch, but settles to a wide ring while leaving some patchy lacing. Pretty good dunkel, but I’ve had better.

(Bottle 50 cl) Incredibly pretty amber coloured beer with a creamy head that leaves a pretty lacework. Very soft and aromatic with plenty of roasted malt and malty sweetness. A wee perfumy touch and only a weak bitterness. Excellent. 150202

This poured practically headless, but it had a bright & clear reddish-brown body to make up for it. The aroma is a toasty malt with a hint of chocolate. The only downside to this brew is that it’s a bit thin, watery. The aroma looses the roast of the toast and turns on the sweet caramel malts with a surge of milk chocolate. Mildly sweet finish, surprizingly clean. This is a very drinkable dunkel.

Dark and sparkly, with a dark tan frothy head. Aromas of smoke, sourdough bread, caramel and malt. Flavor is full of rich hops, burnt toffee, chocolate, and herbs. Real nice smooth bitterness with good chewy dark malt character. Pleasant lingering finish, with an aftertaste of apples and strawberries. A very good, balanced brew.
