Commercial Description:
The dessert beer of all beers. The oak barrels gave a vanilla-like succulence that leaves you hoping your glass never empties. Smooth and silky, it’s easier to drink than regular and has a slight bourbon hint

On tap at Downtown Johnny Brown. Very surprising aroma of vinegar????I’m not sure if it’s the barrel aging or what, but this stout leaves me wondering. Very distracting, no carbonation and somewhat disappointing. Believe it or not I didn’t even finish it.

Draft @ O’Brien’s. Black in the glass with a thin off-white head that leaves light lacing. Looks high carb (very bubbly in the glass) but turns out to be fairly smooth on the tongue yet slightly dry. Sweet aroma of caramel and vanilla. The flavor finds chocolate and a nice roastiness backed with some bourbon. Medium body. Very Nice!

Draft at O’briens, poured a dark black with a nice tan head. Smells included chocolate, coffee, malt and vinegar. The vinegar smell is vague but present. Taste of dark roasted malted chocolate, with wood and vinard like aftertaste. Nice stout.

Draft at O’Brien’s. Dark dark pour with a decent tan head. I have to agree with padrefan that there was some vinegar on the aromas. But it translated into a decent wood/port wine flavor. Pretty decent brew actually despite the strange aromas.

Wow! good to see that this one is up on ratebeer now! Me and jarspag, as said in his rating, were the first in public to sample it at the brewery before it was released! Much thanks to Shawn indeed for slipping us a sampler of this stuff! Aroma was dominated by bourbon from the barrel in which it was aged (JD barrels I think). Tan head, but didnt last very long, but the flavor was great! Mostly light whiskey flavors mixed with currants, chocolate, smokey malts, and coffee beans. Great palate, finishes a bit dry, but very very smooth. I look forward to trying it on nitro.

First to rate this one...Sample with Justin at the brewery, courtesy of Shawn. He said this one was about to hit the local pubs, a big thanks for being one of the first to taste it! Nice off-white/tan head....Awesome aroma of vanilla, chocolate, and lots of bourbon qualities - quite different from the normal Captain. Tasted very similar to the aroma. Great mouthfeel and bigger than the abv would lead you to believe. Probably the best non-impy i’ve ever had, but I do wish it was a bit bigger. Can’t wait for the nitrogenated version... keep it flowin!
