On tap @ the Liar’s Club in Alpine back in early 01/08. I guess they’ve been holding back this keg for some time and I was lucky enough to be there when they tapped it. Thanks Louis.

Pours completely black with lasting mocha ring of foam and spotty lacing. The aroma is three things varying in strength depending on the aromatic sample: sweet cherries, dark chocolate and wood mixed with sweet and roasty malts. Wow, nice. The taste begins with a quick rush of tartness that bleeds into sweet cherry fruitiness and red wine. Another flavor level running along with the fruit is a rich chocolate maltiness, faint burnt malts and a hodgepodge of various roasted malts. Everything is melded together seamlessly with a hint of wood just noticeable from time to time. Well crafted beer.

On tap at Liar’s Club. Very dark brown, small head. Aroma of grass, tart fruit, earth. Funky tropical fruit flavors along with oats, dark malts, citrus. This was aged in red wine barrel with raspberries added. Crazy and fun.

Draft at Liar’s Club. Dark pour with smallish head. Aromas were sour wood and chocolate. Flavors were still tart with more chocolate and some fruity finish. Raspberries and barrel flavors. Sweet and tasty. I liked it.

On tap @ Liars Club (Alpine). Dark as night, smells like raspberry and chocolate. Flavor is the same - like a raspberry chocolate you would get out a box of sees candy. palate is kind of light. There is some wood in the flavor too. Apparently, this is Captain Stout with Raspberry added. It was supposedly aged in Wine barrels. Pretty good.
