| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours pitch black with a dark beige head. Aroma is fantastic. Strong roasty chocolate dominates, but there’s plenty of vanilla and oak in there too. Flavor does not live up to the aroma. Tangy and not as sweet as expected. Not very complex, Mostly dark coffee and burnt chocolate. Some hop bitterness. The palate is thinner than expected for a beer of this size with light carbonation. bb (2919), Martinez, California, USA

Vanilla and bourbon aroma with light roast and dark chocolate. Bourbon and rich malt flavor with light coffee and light chocolate. Medium-plus bodied. Roastiness lingers with vanilla and coffee. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2008 22 oz. bottle - thanks to weeheavySD for bringing this to the HOTD dock sale; very dark brown with thin tan head; flat, smooth and on the sweet side; lots of chocolate, dank fruit and definitely a touch of sourness there from the barrel aging; kind of odd and glad I have a bottle to revisit at a later date daknole (2940), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 27, 2008 bottle from toncatcher. Black pour, small brown head. Aroma is full of coffee, booze, roasted malts and chocolate. Flavor is very roasted with some faint hints of chocolate. Coffee flavors come through and the bourbon is pretty understated. GI Bourbon County Stout it isnt. Pretty dry and could use a bit more malt punch. Petrucci914 (583), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Thanks to TheCheeseMan for he extra! Pours a dark brown with a large creamy mocha head that fades thin. Aroma is intense bourbon, wood, coffee, vanilla. Taste is about the same, with a lot of bourbon going on. A very solid impy but a bit too much bourbon going on for me. Juelze (901), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Thanks to my bro for sharing this! Pours a dark brown color with big frothy light brown head that fades quickly. Aroma is of a intense bourbon, oak, and vanilla. The taste is bourbon and oak, roasted malt and light chocolate. The bourbon character in this beer is unbelievable. Alcohol is not well hidden but not overpowering either. Everything is in balance. Stellar stuff. CaptainCougar (5458), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of sweet caramel malt, dark chocolate and a good amount of bourbon oak with a touch of tobacco. Starts full bodied and lightly sweet with a roasty bitter balance and bourbon complexity before a alightly drier finish with a hint of tartness. A pretty good bourbon aged imperial stout. drfabulous (1241), Columbia, Missouri, USA

These are the main ingredients. Add that slightly tart finish, and you have a great stout. Lots of folks do this style right, and Alpine is one of them. Great beer.
